Cardinals' defense still erratic, but obviously a great comeback win tonight! :clappy:

Unreal 9th inning. I think the 15 pinch hit home runs is more impressive than the 25 game home run streak. I really don't even care about the streak except for the fact that it means we've gone 25 games without being shut out.

As for the pirates, how demoralizing does that have to be? You've already lost 7 straight. You fall down 5-0 early. You fight back to take a 6-5 lead. There are 2 outs in the 9th, and an 0-2 count on the batter, you're so close to ending that streak... ouch.

As soon as Carpenter hit the ball, it was fun to watch the catcher and the pitchers reaction. Both knew it was gone when he hit it.

With that perfect 9th inning, Mayers ERA dropped to 34.74!!!! I wondered how he did after the Dodgers game when he went back down. He has to feel great.

Agreed. A major league record. Been a Cardinals fan for longer than I care to admit, and don't recall them hitting dingers like they have this year. (I was lucky enough to attend the Cardinals-Mariners game where the Birds hit 6.)

Glad to see him get another chance after the first try disaster. I was afraid that experience could derail a career.

It's nice to see Wong getting some playing time and contributing the past week or so. I think he was pressing too much early to justify his contract, happens all the time, especially with younger players. He's a big part of our future, so hopefully he can build on this success and keep going. He's made some dandy defensive plays, it seems like he has an awesome one each night.

That being said, when Holliday and Diaz come back, I think Wong will be fighting to get at bats. Hopefully it doesn't have a negative affect on him, because he can be a great asset on the bench for pinch hitting situations, spot starts, and late inning pinch running.

Actually, a lot of guys will be losing at bats when that happens. Matheny is going to have some tough decisions to make, especially trying to get those guys going without rehab at bats in the minors.

Peralta
Diaz
Carpenter
Gyorko
Adams
Moss
Wong
Will all be fighting for spots on the infield, plus Garcia will need at bats to stay fresh. Also, Holliday and Piscotty can each play first too, but I don't think we'll see much of that down the stretch.

Holliday
Moss
Grichuk
Piscotty
Figure to be the main guys in the outfield, plus Pham will need at bats. I don't see much room for Hazelbaker. Wong can play out there too, but I highly doubt we see that either.

Lots of options, lots of versatility. I don't envy Matheny having to make those decisions.

How much longer can Garcia kept being trotted out there every 5th day? Have to have the best 5 arms in the rotation if the playoffs are something that will happen this year and Garcia is not one of them.

Winner winner. Get another one tomorrow and we'll only be 1 back of SF.

Don't care how annoyingly inconsistent this season has been. If we can somehow sneak into the playoffs, anything can happen. We have the talent to make a run.

Reyes was a boss today. Getting a split with SF was a solid result, but the Mets keep winning. The Mets schedule looks pretty easy. But you never which teams show up to play this time of year. Some guys are just counting down the days to vacation. And then there are good teams like the Cubs who might not be playing at full intensity.

SF: @LA, @SD, COL, LA
NYM: ATL, PHI, @MIA, @PHI
STL: @COL, @CHC, CIN, PIT

And each one of those contenders has a 4 game series remaining this season. For the Cardinals, it's the Reds series. For the Giants, it's the Padres series. For the Mets, it's the home series vs. the Phillies.

I will be at Coors for all 3 games. Hoping to bring them luck.

And I'm excited to see C-Mart tomorrow.

So game starts in 5 minutes and Coors is nowhere near capacity. It's probably only going to be half full tonight.

Of the 3 teams in the wildcard race I like our schedule 2nd best. Nym obviously has the easiest schedule, but aside from Chicago we are playing teams behind us in the standings. Also, we've played Chicago tough all year.

I don't see the Giants getting it done. 2 series vs the Dodgers who are ahead of them in the standings, plus they are huge rivalry games, so you know the Dodgers won't be able to coast in those games. Plus, SD has owned SF in the second half. Combine all that with their terrible bullpen and I think we squeak into the playoffs.

The biggest problem with the Cardinals' remaining schedule is that they play their last seven games AT HOME! They've got to play better in Busch now than they have all year.

I wish we'd stop starting Peralta. He isn't right and he isn't helping much this year.

You'd think with Leake on the mound you'd want as much range on the infield as possible. I want Wong and Diaz up the middle in that case.

I was only listening on the radio, but it sounded like we got absolutely hosed on a couple calls early, a foul ball called fair, and Leake getting hbp called a strike

They should have had the bases loaded and no one out. Leake was hit trying to bunt, but he clearly had the bat pulled back. After coming out of commercial break, they showed Waino ripping 1b umpire, who made blown call.

I thought the ball was fair, no clear angle.

Not having Wong at second cost them a doubleplay in first.
