I don't know about anyone else but I wish we would just get rid of Broxton. I don't know what Matheny sees in him, but every time he comes into the game, he is just terrible. I feel like he is always giving up runs.

Yeah, he's washed up. I don't think Matheny sees anything in him, but he has to be used because our starting pitching is wearing out the bullpen.

That is true but I feel like Matheny always sticks him in close run situations only for the other team to build on their lead. Luckily he got out of it today.

I agree 100% with Broxton being no good, but we really didn't have a lot of options today. Our starters haven't been getting deep into games, especially in the past 2 days. Can't run the same 4 guys out there every night for innings 6-9.

Ps, wtf is up with wacha and martinez? Garcia getting beat up 2 times in a row at home is also a head scratcher. Martinez hasn't been the same since the STD allegations

Yeah the starting pitching is getting really frustrating at this point. Plenty of talent there, it's just really inconsistent right now. And with Wacha, Martinez, and Garcia it seems like when they don't even have bad games just one bad inning.

But today is a moral victory if there is such a thing. Good to put some runs on Arrieta.

He was solid that first game, but since that oblique or whatever injury he's been a mess

Well it only gets tougher from here. 6 out of the 9 series in June are against winning teams. And 1 of the easy series is only 2 games against the Astros. Plus we finish May with 4 @Washington.

We will find out a lot about this team in the next month. Time to put the big boy pants on and play good baseball. Looking at the schedule I'll be happy with 17-14 leaving us 4 games over .500 going into July.

I know this has nothing to do with the cards, but Julio Urias (Dodgers number 1 prospect) will be making his debut Friday night. I read that scouts think he could have made his debut 2 years ago, and been successful at age 17. Insane.

Not pretty today, but a split on the road against the Nats is a good result. This week we put up runs on Arrieta, Sherzer, and Gio Gonzalez. And we are on a streak of 4 straight quality starts. Makes me optimistic the wins will start racking up.

Game today was actually pretty competitive until Chatham native Jayson Werth hit that pinch hit grand slam in the 7th.

Any thoughts on how Peralta's return figures into the mix? Peralta, Carpenter, Diaz, Wong, Garcia, & Gyorko makes for a crowded infield, especially with Moss & Adams at 1B & PH. Maybe generous playing time (where?) to set up trade options?

I think Diaz is going to stay as the full time starting SS. He is here and can handle the bat and he will develope fully on the big league roster. I think Carp and Peralta float. They will be mainstays in the line up, but I think Jhonny will primarily handle 3rd and Carp will see a lot more at 1st. Peralta cut his thumb, so he will delayed from what I understand.

It's going to be very tough...but in a good way. There are a lot of options that can be used but it all depends on performance. Which kind of sucks because watching a guy like Matt Adams rake is exciting but it also means he is more likely to be traded.

The players most likely to be traded IMO are Peralta, Moss, Adams, or Wong in that order. But somehow Matheny has to figure out how to get all those guys consistent playing time, plus keep Diaz playing consistently, and of course playing Carpenter as much as possible. I definitely wouldn't want to have Matheny's job right now, but that's what he gets paid to do.

I think the best thing to do is get Peralta plenty of playing time. If he hits well I think he'll have the value to get something solid back and at the same time not hurt us much in the future.

I think it will be good for Diaz to have an off day every 4th or 5th day. He started 21 straight before having yesterday off and he's starting to slow down a bit. Holliday also could use an off day or two per week. He's still in good shape to play everyday but it's not necessary. Keep him nice and fresh for September/October.

Was last week a turning point? I think so, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm still in wait-and-see mode.

The roster strengthens Tuesday wit the addition of Peralta. I read that Peralta moves to 3rd, and Marp to 2nd (he actually prefers 2nd).

The time in AAA will do Wong some good. Hopefully it serves as a wakeup call. He needs to get right and it wasn't going to happen at this level without consistent playing time, which he was not going to receive with the better options we had on the bench and the team looking up in the standings.

The deal he signed was for 5 years I believe with an option for a 6th, so its in the teams best interest to get him consistent playing time this season too since there's still another potential 5 seasons on his contract. We're gonna need him to be right at some point both in this season and in the future.

His contract is team friendly too. We definitely need him going forward cause Gryoko definitely isn't the answer.

I also hope Grichuk figures it out. His potential, like Wongs', is extremely high.

Hopefully Kolten will be able to work on his hitting in a conducive environment. I think he won't be gone long (glove & contract) and that some sort of trade movement is in the eventual offing. But who and for what I do not have a guess.

I think it could be longer. Even if he goes down and starts raking, where would you give him playing time? I think he could stay down until we trade someone at the trade deadline.

Plus I wonder how Matheny deals with hitting slumps. Obviously they happen to everyone and normally you would just let the guy work through it. But we have so much flexibility kow that Peralta is back, I wonder how much patience Matheny will have.

Maybe Big City bats .150 for the next 10 days and Wong gets his swing back. It seems harsh but does that mean all of a sudden Adams is the odd man out? Or maybe Peralta starts slow. Or Diaz cools off. We'll see how long Matheny's leash is.
