There are a lot of things this team doesn't do well but they will rally around their All American. I would expect nothing less than a 30 point win tonight.

I'm curious what surgery means for a broken nose. Do they stick something up there or are they opening the nose up. Is he under or awake?

Calling any doctors on this board...
I broke my nose and had surgery in high school. I'd consider it "minor" and fast. Basically just realigning it. It was in off-season baseball, so I can't really comment on any mask situation as it wasn't needed. Just had one of those embarrassing little plastic things on my nose for maybe a couple weeks. I imagine he's fine to play once the nose is "set" and the swelling is down. Probably just giving him a few days to get the swelling down, mask fitted, and start the healing.

guessing they are being cautious that he is right for the last two....those games are massive
They were massive until they lost the game vs Michigan State. That eliminated any Big Ten Championship hope. If they drop any of these next two, at that point they're playing for a double bye in the BTT. I'd argue that the biggest game of the regular season has turned into tonight. This would go into the "bad loss" category and would have the way to a very feasible 0-5 finish to wrap up the regular season.

You have no clue how much I hope you're right. I'll be physically ill if we lose.

Hope this isn't a lingering injury. Maybe that tells us why the FT was missed. He looked off at the FT line. I haven't read the whole thread. I am surprised that there was no blood. Could they have taken him out and substituted a player chosen by Izzo to shoot the free throws? The player was ejected. Is he eligible for their next game? We all know that there should have been a F1 against what happened to Kofi. Get well Ayo!!!

I can't believe the B1G hasn't suspended Sissoko yet. MSU plays tonight. This happened on Tuesday. What are they waiting for? Do they not realize how rare a flagrant 2 is? Davison got suspended for a flagrant 1 last year. Griffin got suspended for his flagrant 2 last year. Both those instances were far less violent and resulted in no injuries of any kind, let alone the severity of a broken nose to the potential BTPOY/NPOY! Kevin Warren is a joke.

If we go with the defaulted favorites, we line up with MSU again. Good.
I have no desire to play MSU in BTT this year. Don’t want a repeat of their thuggery and don’t want any Illini players looking for retribution. Only possible good thing is that refs bend over backwards to keep MSU in line and call it so close that it benefits Illini. But not putting money on that.

It is shocking that the Illinois medical staff cleared Dosunmu to play the final 4:08 with a broken nose that is so significant that he now faces significant health risk were he to play w/o a mask and may miss several games going forward. It appears their examination was cursory and the decision to permit Ayo to continue was medically incorrect and potentially dangerous. No excuse and indefensible. This situation needs to be reviewed so it doesn't happen to another UI athlete moving forward. Get well Ayo.
More likely case is that the current health risk is related to recovering from the surgery and risk versus reward of playing in the interim.
But those are fair questions to ask.

As weird as this my sound, my initial thought when Ayo walked up to the line for his free throws was, "did he break his nose?" You could tell it was definitely affecting him.

Ayo has always surpassed my expectations about toughness. I agree with the thought process of rest/healing until B10 tourney. Give him time to heal and get used to a mask. The rest of the team can step up, and go 2-2 in the final 4 games. We still get a B10 tourney double bye, and end up a 2-3 seed in the big dance. A health Ayo might have let us go 3-1 still double bye & 2 seed, no real difference.

Two issues with a broken nose and face mask that I have not seen discussed.
1. How will he adapt to playing with a mask? It could affect his visibility. It could also be a mental thing until he gets used to it.
2. Is there any impact to his breathing? The broken nose and/or surgery could restrict his ability to breathe.

Finally, if he is out for a time, how does that affect his game conditioning?

No one would be "pissing and moaning" if we had won the game, or if DMW had taken out one of the Spartans with a hard foul, which I kind of wish he had. :)
Literally everyone would be. Our star player had his nose broken on a dirty play that's going to sideline him at least 1 game. Win or lose we have every right to be 'pissing and moaning'. Stupid post.

The part that sucks is that this guy only plays like 6 minutes a game.

Is it true that Izzo said after the game that he wanted a street fight? I have not been able to find the quote
"Asked about the nature of the contest and Josh’s comment on consistency, Izzo mused that “Street fight is a good way to put it...we had an alum down there and he said it looked like our street fighting days."

To put anything on the Illinois medical staff is ludicrous.

Yep. 9 minutes, 3 fouls, no other stats. At least 3 instances of violent actions: hard foul on Giorgi posting up, hitting Kofi's head, Ayo's nose. That's either taught or just his style of play, and he needs to be reprimanded for it. This isn't just chippy, annoying stuff like Griffin and Davison had a bit of a history with, this is dangerous, reckless play. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he is actually trying to hurt people, but he is definitely playing with complete disregard to others' safety.

MSU has 3 games left against the two teams most likely to pull #1 seeds in the NCAA. The B1G really needs to put on their thinking caps and consider the consequences of not putting their feet down now. They don't and they are risking something even worse than losing a NPOY candidate on a FF contender

A lot of cases of players doing very well with masks. Honestly can't think of too many cases where it drastically effects a players game.
