Nobody should want any piece of McNeese
None whatsoever, have had 6 different high scorers this year, all over 20.

Beat Michigan, even though they're horrible by 11.
30-3, they know how to win and Dirty Will Wade is their coach!

You know he is dropping bags from his personal pocket for kids.

I forgot that Illinois only beat 16-seed McNeese St. by six (77-71) in 1989.

We’ve seen a few possible 13-seed opponents speculated. I think I’d prefer to play Charleston, then Samford, then Vermont, then UC-Irvine, then McNeese St. That’s worst to best by AdjD rank (except for McNeese St., who I think is probably solid all around and would be a real tough game, so I'd least like to play them regardless of KenPom):

Team / AdjO / AdjD

Charleston / 60 / 173
Samford / 68 / 113
Vermont / 156 / 64
UC-Irvine / 118 / 35
McNeese St. / 52 / 82

I remember that game. We were up 73-51 with 1:45 to go, our backups are in and we missed some FTs and turned it over a few times. McNeese scored on uncontested layups and open 3s until the very end. It was 77-63 with 25 seconds left. Lou was trying to get the game over and McNeese kept fouling to extend the game. We also had an intentional with 6 seconds left which gave them 2 fts and the ball with 6 seconds left. They hit the 2 fts and then hit a 3 with 2 seconds left. It was ridiculous but we were never in danger of losing that game.

Focus instead on the 14-seeds.

We'll be a #3 seed once Sunday rolls around. We're due for a nice BTT run, and our path to the finals is not that difficult compared to prior years.

With Kansas going down last night, what are the chances they fall to the dreaded 5 seed? Also, if they get healthy, they could be a scary matchup at a 4/5 seed...

Ah, gotcha. I would hope for something like Illinois and Indy vs. Chicago never happens then!!

Agreed, but I think it's pretty unlikely there would ever be both Indy and Chicago sites in the same tournament (at least, in the same round - obviously there's always a dream scenario like Indy-Chicago-STL in 2005).

Illinois did move down to 16 in the NET, switching spots with St. Mary's.

It does not make any sense to me why Saint Mary's is this high let alone above us...
We have more quad 1 and quad 2 wins and 0 quad 3 losses to their 2...
I guess being 12-0 in quad 4 games really boosts their stock...

They have an impressive 9-0 road record but that's about it

Metrics != Wins.

Difference is the committee doesn't really care about how much you won by, just that you won. Though I've heard it has become a bit of a balance between the two lately.

A bit off subject, but looking for clever Illini related pool name for my entry.
Thanks!

NET is all about efficiency metrics. We do not know the formulas for NET (as the NCAA will never release them), but I suspect the efficiency of St. Mary's on the road is likely helping them extensively in NET. The quad wins are based off of team's NET ranking, so you cannot look at the quad records to try to justify where a team is NET ranked, though they are undoubtedly related.

Luckily, the committee does not only use NET for rankings, and most have St. Mary's as a 6 or 7 seed. However, I would hate to be the 2 or 3 seed that draws them in the second round.

We need Ohio State to win today. Ohio state is the only shot we have a neutral Top 50 NET opponent for our game on Friday.

2026 has potential to be STL-Chicago-Indy.
2005 in reverse. Get the throwbacks ready.

I would be surprised if Chicago gives us much more of an advantage vs Indy.

I've only been to one Illinois game at the UC and it was Ayo's freshman year when we got throttled by OSU. The place was empty. I got floor tickets for next to nothing. Probably close to our fanbase's most apathetic point so, it's not really fair to compare my experiences in the two markets.

But, I've been to several games in Indy, (regular season, BTT, NCAAT) and our fans have always shown up. Again, to be fair, all the games I've been to in Indy were when we were having very good seasons. But it would surprise me if we had less fan support for a tourney game in Indy vs Chicago unless we were in the same session as IU or Purdue or something.

We have tens of thousands more alumni in the Chicago area than we do within an hour of Indy.

I'm guessing you are on the younger side.

The UC used to be our house until it suddenly wasn't as our team slowly slipped away. It's far more that we didn't have very watchable teams than fans unwilling to see us play at the United Center. That said, Chicago also includes Rosemont, where we played in 2005. I think it's fair to say the Illini were very very very well supported in those games. Hell, the game against Arizona was one of if not the loudest most passionate environment for a tourney game I've seen. The Illini are supported heavily in the Chicago area, but if you're sub .500, it's a much tougher sell. Playing a tourney game in Chicago as a top 4 seed though? If Illini fans don't make up over 80% of the crowd in a sell out, I'd be beyond shocked.

Yeah, no disrespect to 21ChampaignSt, but it wasn't always this way.
