As if I didn't have enough reasons to hate Minnesota.

Now we have Fitzgerald and Fleck in the same division :rage:

Great hire for Minny, but I'm a little surprised Fleck would go there. That's a lot of money, but I figured Fleck would get a shot at a bigger program. Regardless, lots of fresh coaching blood in the B1G West. Should be interesting.

I agree with Bob Zuppke on Twitter:

Even if you don't think Fleck will win at MN, he has Illinois ties and will bring talent to a school that previously wasn't getting talent

Definitely.

However, Fleck is walking into a titanic mess and I don't believe he will win many recruiting battles against Lovie.

I agree its gonna be tough to pry from LOVIE....the Mac to the big ten is a huge transition......and Minnesota has been built for a power run team...may take fleck a long time to get it together.....6 years lol

Can't remember who tweeted it, but I'm in full agreement that if he's not winning his schtick will come off as very Beckman-esque.

Row the boat is a much better schtick than W.I.N.T.

Well, the copyright to Row The Boat belongs to Western Michigan, so we'll see how that shakes out.

That's the thing with this guy. Row the Boat is his whole life's philosophy and he had the University copyright it so it could go on all the jerseys and all their gear and he swore up and down that he would lead them into the national elite.....and then he leaves for more money at Minnesota after four years.

When you BS that hard, you're going to get found out.

Not if he wins. A majority of successful division 1 coaches are arrogant, haughty, self abdorbed, narcissistic scamming BS artists.

That Fleck said he would stay and then bolted is like being shocked that there is gambling in this establishment.

Pretty simple fix. "Paddle the canoe!" Much easier for the Minnesota fans to understand!

Agree with many of the above post about his P.C. First thing I thought of was, wow he sounds a lot like Beckman. " I eat difficult conversations for breakfast ", " I have a crack on my shoulder, not a chip".

I disagree with the naysayers here. Fleck will be the most successful coach in Minnesota's modern history. He's also starting with a strong base built by Kill. Would pretty much have wanted anybody else, including Miles at this job. This is not a good move for us.

I will say that when Lovie was hired a lot more publicity. The recent Big Ten hires have been a blip on the radar. I see Lovie's star power helping to maintain the recruiting advantage over Minn, Purdue, Ind, and NW. I think it will carry him for another year or two, but if he can win and get kids to the NFL, I think he'll get to the next level.

On a different note I see two or three WMU commits flipped to Minn. Sucks for his former employer. They're going to be set back pretty bad by losing Fleck.

He's up to 5 flips and needless to say, WMU fans are rapidly changing their tune about the guy.

Funny, I didn't see Tim Beckman's name mentioned on their blog as a potential replacement.
