This might be a dumb question, but why is Painter never mentioned as a potential for a blue blood job? I need him out of the B1G.
Brands are built focused on recruiting the best talent. The top players dream of playing at North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, etc... They purposely build through the best talent with the belief that when that coach retires (e.g., Coach K), then next coach can come into their factory and continue recruiting the same level of talent (e.g., Scheyer) and maintain the system.
It becomes an odd fit when you have a coach that (a) recruits at a lower level (willingly or not) and (b) gets the absolute best out of that talent. It's less sustainable from coach-to-coach. When Painter leaves, there is no magic about the Purdue brand that brings out the best from average talent.
