20 mil a year is absolutely insane for a coach who has never won a title. 20 mil a year is get Belichek and Brady back together money.
Eh, 20 mil a year is a trivial amount of money in the grand scheme of things (no salary cap for coaches) and Harbaugh is a proven very good NFL head coach.

Proven good coaches are "worth" way, way more than they're currently getting paid, but because the NFL won't allow teams to poach and have bidding wars for each other's coaches, that market never reveals itself, everyone is stuck taking chances on retreads or unproved coordinators. Harbaugh is a genuinely unique commodity in that way.

But man, the Russell Wilson situation, I dunno...

Illinois should hope that Michigan abandons their Bielema-adjacent style the same way Wisconsin has done. The more unique we are in the conference the better.

Rich Rod should have known his lane and stayed in it. Had a great thing at WVU before he jumped.
Who turns down the Michigan job? No, RichRod should never have been offered. Once offered, he was right to take it even if he felt the probability for success was low. Personally, I was thrilled by the hire. Heh heh heh.

I mean Harbaugh himself turned it down once.

Rich Rod and Michigan was a culture clash that just couldn't sustain itself. It probably would have worked if it happened today, for one thing Rich Rod could have gotten a roster suited to him much faster today, but going from the Michigan Man mystique into modernity that abruptly was doomed to failure in 2007.

But Michigan is a really, really good job. In terms of a bankable NIL army of internet weirdos obsessed with recruiting (and with the high quality degrees and salaries to make it count), Illinois Basketball is near the top, but Michigan Football is above even that. That's a place that will shine as the sport professionalizes further.

Going from Carr ----> RichRod -----> back to smashmouth (Hoke) was very detrimental for 2008-2015 Michigan football. Doing a complete about-face for schematics causes a lot of pain in the middle of your tenure (especially pre-transfer portal). The hot take is that RichRod probably works if you gave him more time. He had plenty of pieces to put together a 9-10 win season in 2011 but (a) UM wanted blood for the '09 season (b) donors wanted blood for the '09 season and for hiring outside of the family, and (c) they were kinda terrified what it would mean if RichRod was successful in '11.

There has been some minor angst by a few over the B10 coaching changes being potential upgrades and they may well be, but this is my feeling on the subject. I don’t want us to try and be an air raid offense. If we can get the line play we need and the defense continues to show like we did Monday, I’m happy with where we are positioned.

There are lots of ways to win a football game. They all work if you do them well, they all don't work if you don't do them well.

But there are real advantages to be gained by playing a way your opponents aren't used to preparing for, and taking advantage of pools of recruits that fit what you do better than what your competitors do.

Petrino leaves head coaching job at Missouri State to be offensive coordinator at UNLV. Three weeks go by and leaving that job for offensive coordinator at Texas A&M. Politicians and coaching changes are reality TV. Scary to say this but Petrino might have a better track record to coach A&M than Jimbo.

I too feel like I easily forget that Jimbo won a national title at Florida State in 2013, but it happened.
I can't even imagine being a football fan of Nebraska, FSU, Tennessee, etc when they were/are down for years. It is all about, What have you done for me lately?

I didn't forget about his championship but A&M is stuck with Jimbo either way. His contract buyout guarantees his salary so it would be over $85M now. Jimbo went 5-6 at FSU and resigned to take over at Texas A&M. Jimbo got handed the keys to real nice situations at FSU and Texas A&M. Sumlin got fired after 6 seasons at A&M with no losing seasons. Jimbo is going into his 6th season at A&M with no double digit win seasons and coming off a 5-7 record with 2 of those wins over Sam Houston and UMass. Jimbo Fisher has been known as a great offensive mind and is handing the reigns over to Petrino. Seat is staying warm even if he goes 9-3 next season.

He is a good coach, not a great coach. Definitely no Gene Chizik either :ROFLMAO:

yea, his vague statement means nothing and is only meant to " keep peace and order" amongst the staff and players until he gets that phat offer from Denver, Indy or Charlotte

Tommy Tuberville on his coaches radio show in Oxford, MS in late 1998:
“They’ll have to carry me out of here in a pine box,” Tuberville stated during one of his shows
Despite his bold statement, he was off and gone to Auburn two days later.

and this is just breaking :

if I was Cleveland St, I would expect the NCAA to be so mad about this , as to penalize them any day now
