LVG dead man walking. The Chosen One takeover at season end. Massive warchest to overhaul the team. Neymar and Pogba will be a good start.

Terrific comeback win by the Gunners. Only 2 points back of LFC in the table.

Huge win for the Spurs.

pretty poor call on the penalty considering the arm sterling supposedly touched the ball with was on the other side of his body from the ref.

manchester teams fading; the managers don't seem to care. pelligrini at least knows he's getting replaced, LVG not far behind.

chelsea resurgent (reminiscent of dortmund last year) only 8 points behind europa spot.

The player jumped and made his body bigger with his arm in an unnatural position. The video angle from behind the goal showed that the ball did indeed hit his elbow. It was the correct call.

Great games at the top and the Valentine's Day Massacre in between was fun for me.

Really surprised that angle wasn't shown more than that one time. The angle they keep replaying looks like it hit his ribcage but that angle from behind definitely showed it going off of his arm.

Look at this video 40 seconds in -
There is no way that is a handball. It hits his back/armpit. As for his arm being in an unnatural position (which doesn't really matter as it didn't hit his arm), I'm wondering how people think they naturally jump because as Tim Howard would say, most people don't jump with their arms at their sides like a pencil.

Look at seconds 8-11 and how far he ran to deliberately throw himself in front of the shot. At the 9 second mark his elbow is facing the player with the ball. by the time the ball arrives his elbow is facing the corner flag. It did hit the armpit and back of the arm / elbow as it exited. That is all that is necessary for a penalty to be awarded. Again...correct call.

What does any of that have to do with whether it's a handball? As for the angle at 8-11, it's an overhead angle where you can't tell were it hit. From 40-49 you can CLEARLY see it makes no contact with his elbow. Terrible call - and you know it's bad when Tim Howard can't even find a way to say the referee was correct, and when Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher say a call went against City.

To be a handball, there has to be intent (a deliberate movement toward the ball). Had he continued and made the same play and contacted the ball with any part of his body other than the arm/ hand, then it wouldn't have been a handball. He clearly threw his arm into the path of the ball and made contact inside the box.

And using Thierry Henry as an example is laughable. He'll say anything to try to make Spurs look bad.

Champions league is back!

Zenit vs Benfica....Zenit
PSG vs Chelsea...Chelsea (only because they're my team)
Gent vs Wolfsburg...Wolfsburg
Roma vs Real Madrid...Real but Roma gives them a tough test
Arsenal vs Barcelona...Barca (anyone see Messi's penalty pass the other day?)
Juventus vs Bayern....Juventus in a small upset
PSV vs Atletico Madrid...Atletico in a close one
Dynamo Kyiv vs Man City...Dynamo with the upset. They're a solid team and City have been up and down lately.

Still looks to me like it hit underneath his arm.

He threw his whole body, trying to block the ball with his back - which it clearly hits. Was he just suppose to walk over and let him cross the ball? Again, even if it did his arm (which I wouldn't really consider the underside of his arm/armpit, which you can't really tell if it hits or not, his arm since you cant really move that part of the body without cutting off your arm), how was it deliberate? When you jump your arms go up, it's a completely natural movement. Also, I used Henry since he was one of the people in the video. Jamie Carragher isn't a fan of Sterling at all and thought it was a terrible call. Tim Howard who tries everything he can to agree with referees since he's still in the league couldn't find a way to agree with it.

Agreed, really a rough penalty to get called for. The arm has the play the ball not the other way around. If his arm is straight out then sure but it wasn't. I think what put him at a disadvantage was how he jumped and turned his body seemed out of control and may be part of the reason that it was called esp since the ref did not have a good view (which in my opinion makes the call even worse). The other thing is just because it hits his arm does not make it a penalty. When the ball largely also hits his body its very very different than if it only hit his arm outside of what could be considered a natural position for the arms. Really hard to say that that was the correct call

it also needs to be seen by a referee. remember the controversy about zidane and materazzi? the linesman here was way on the other side of the pitch and clattenburg did not have a good angle on it. i think carragher is right when he said the ref was playing a hunch.

i don't think his arm is in unnatural position either. he needed to swing that arm to twist his body in the air.
