So we are still perhaps waiting to hear on an extra year for Badinovac?
Not that I understand this stuff, but I don’t see how he gets another year. He’s played in 5 seasons. 3 plus the covid year when he only got 2 games at Colgate. But I don’t see how he can take a redshirt in 2020 and then take an extra covid year also. 2021 was his extra year.

Palcho coming back has to be the equivalent of top grad transfer on the market. Palcho - Slaughter - Pearl - Crisler - Adams - Barlev - Kreutz - Pihlstrom all likely competing for starting spots (Palcho and Pearl are locked in barring an injury). Plus maybe a first- or second-year surprises and grinds out some snaps short of the redshirt threshold (Plohr? Wisecarver? Okla?)

I agree with this. I found something that said he started in 31 of 34 games at Colgate. That equates to three full years, plus their 2-game Covid year of 2020, I do believe.

Anyone know the scoop on Wisecarver? He was one of our highest rated OL recruits over the years. Think he will make an impact by next year?

Let's hope Wisecaver makes the jump. We have some good freshmen OL coming in. I wonder if any of the OL will switch to DL during fall camp. We need help at that position. Especially with a big body.

OL is the hardest position to play as a true freshman. I would not be worried until it is year 3 if he is still not being a contributor. I think the Lovie era got us too used to seeing young linemen thrown to the wolves. Not a good spot to be in.

In 2020 and 2021 seasons he didn’t play more than 4 games and he never used the red shirt rule so they appealed to go ahead take it.
I thought Palcho started all 12 games in 2021. If he played only 4 games or less, he could have counted that as his redshirt year and wouldn't have needed to get a waiver. My understanding where the waiver came in was that he was injured in 2020, the "free" year, and Illinois asked why can't he get a waiver to get his free year back. It was a precedent set with Michael Marchese.

According to this he only played 4 games in 2020 and 3 games last year: https://fightingillini.com/sports/football/roster/alex-palczewski/12205

That’s what i based my comment off of. Not sure why the discrepancy, but 247 says 2020 was the year he is being granted the red shirt for. Either way I’m thrilled he’s back!
