Illinois 73, Indiana 71 POSTGAME

This game shows why the W-L record can't be taken too seriously in small sample sizes. Out of our 9 conference games, this was probably the 2nd or 3rd worst performance. Yet, this is our W?

The basketball gods were finally on our side (I felt a breeze whenever IU was shooting FT's) and I will gladly take it.

When the Illini and IU had gone over 7 minutes without a FG.
"Usually when you have a drought this long, Willie Nelson and John Cougar Mellencamp are coming to town for a benefit concert"

That was really funny when he said that. I laughed pretty hard over it

It wasn't "luckily uncalled". The game was over as soon as the ball was touched. However, he had no business challenging the rebound at all.

He actually didn’t make contact. But why tempt fate like that was Underwoods point I’m sure.

We wouldn't have won without his defense! He made a risky play at the end that luckily didn't get called. That's it. We won in large part because he can contest shots without fouling (compared to anyone else on the team).

I get it. The stupidity of his last decision was just THAT disappointing.

I honestly feel for Underwood. This year’s team has a highlight reel of low-lights when the game has been on the line, unfortunately.

It wasn't a risky play. Risk implies that there's some reward if the pay works out positively. With a 2 point lead and 0.1 seconds left, there was absolutely no positives that could've resulted from him moving forward. Live and learn, but that was a dumb play, not risky.

I also thought Archie really helped us out when he decided to play D instead of fouling and extending the game. I guess he didn't know about our late game struggles because he should've made us inbound it and make FT's at least 3 or 4 more times. Instead we only had to inbound once more.

Mark Alstork can sit the freaking bench the rest of the year. For a 5th year player, he makes the dumbest decisions. Commits stupid fouls. Complains constantly. Couldn't throw the ball in the ocean if he was standing in the middle of it. Gets to shoot 2 free throws to put the final nail in the coffin. Bricks the first one. Misses the second on purpose, and almost fouls Morgan with 0.1 on the freaking clock. Give his minutes to Damonte and Smith. At least they will learn. Alstork thinks this is the Horizon League and can just do whatever the hell he wants and dominate the game. I'm not going to miss him AT ALL. And neither should you.

Does he owe you money or something?

Interesting to see OA come to Mark Alstork's rescue when BU was all over him after missing that last free throw and then almost fouling. Not a smart play by Alstork but perhaps BU could have waited until later to "discuss" it with him?

Relax on Alstork. No contact. He got out of the way. The Indiana player flopped knowing that was the only way of tying the game. The refs didn't fall for it.

Smith and Williams don’t play the entire second half, and we finally win, and a bunch of people on here are saying that we should phone it in and bench Alstork so the freshman get more experience?

What?

The most valuable part of experience is that when you’re a liability in the game, you sit in the bench. They were both liabilities tonight and sat on the bench. We won. They’ll learn.
either Alstork or AJ ind 2d half .

On limited tick for MS and DW, I think BU likes TJL and TF together and I do too. I think people are overhyping Alstorks impact. Maybe bonehead on last play but guy works hard and we have seen bonehead from every player in the lineup this season.

Trent Frazier is now @ 11.5 ppg for a Freshman. He moved past Frank Williams for 7th place on the all time Freshman scoring avg list. Next in sight @ #6 is Mark Smith. Congratulations Trent!!

No, BU had every right to be furious

I'm not arguing whether he had a right to be furious -- he did. What I am saying is that he didn't have to call Alstork out right at that moment. Couldn't he have waited until they got to the locker room?

Edit-->I guess that is just tough love from BU.

Yeah it was a bonehead play but I thought Underwood let a little desperation show with that reaction. I suppose 0-8 with at least half of those losses coming in the final seconds would do that to just about anyone. :noidea:

Agreed. I can certainly understand BU's frustration with the situation.

BU feels snakebit I'm sure from past games. His late game paranoia (understandable from past games) probably drove his over reaction.
