Illinois 93, Michigan 85 Postgame

Hawkins has come so far in the past month, that's coaching. My goodness he is going to be special.
It is good to see Coleman Hawkins got his groove back. He seems to have figured out that bringing energy is his best path to playing time.

I like the idea of Dee and Trent side by side in the record books.
I do, too, my guy. I'm not counting on him getting quite enough shots in to catch Malcolm. I will like it either way.

According to ESPN, Kofi is now 6 points shy of where Trent finished last year. He has moved up the record books each of the past four games, passing Dave Downey during the Rutgers game, Augie with the MSU game, and Ken Norman during the OSU game. He just today passed Kendall Gill and bumped the beloved Jerry Hester from the 20th spot in the Illinois all-time scorers list.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Trent Frazier has been clutch the state of Michigan.
For the second straight weekend, the senior guard had a dagger 3 to stave off a late run and give Illinois a road win.
Last week was a wing 3 to beat Michigan State, this time he took care of nearby Michigan with a late shot-clock triple.
Frazier hit a 3 with 45 seconds to quiet the Crisler Center crowd and stretch a four-point lead to seven before No. 15 Illinois held on for an 93-85 win over the Wolverines.
“When it’s close I never shy away from the moment,” Frazier said. “I have confidence in myself and I just made a play.”

The conference stretch has meant that the closer title officially is Frazier’s after All-American Ayo Dosunmu was that guy last season.“He took it from Ayo,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. “Ayo doesn’t have that thing anymore, it’s all his. I’d like to tell you it was a great play. No. It was a dude making a play. When you get to this level you need guys to go make plays and Trent made one.”

How can there be any question of hanging Trent's Jersey?
He has been a program changer...

Like to see Keegan Murray like progression next year. Needs to be a leader and big gun.

Coleman Hawkins is helping us win games lately, and Trent makes big shots! Really frustrating watching us sometimes, especially when we go to the line. Luckily it hasn't cost us more than it has this year. Hoping we can reverse that and put things together in a couple weeks.
Look at our losses this year. Free throws have killed us.
Marquette loss-we shot 63%
Arizona-64%
Purdue-Purdue shot 32 free throws-we shot 15
Maryland-shot 25-we shot 10
Rutgers-we shot 56%
OSU-SHOT 32-We shot 17 [64%]
In first win against MSU- they shot 17-we shot 7 [42%]
In win against Mich Sunday we shot 60%-most were front end of 1and 1
In 6 of the 8 losses free throw shooting has killed us. Season avg.-70%. If the Illini make 70% of their free throws they win Marquette, Arizona, 1st Purdue game and OSU.
Most would say it is Kofi but it is Williams, Plummer, Hawkins, Grandison and even Trent.
They need to shoot free throws every minute of the day until Thursday

personally, I think it's mental, and too much time "practicing" could actually be counterproductive.

I can't believe CBS in DC cut to the Maryland game before our game ended. I'm freaking furious. This after we missed the tip of our game for a commercial break. What the heck is CBS doing.
They did that at the end of the Purdue game on MLK Day in DC, too, cutting away to the start of the HBCU game featuring Howard. I had to run to my computer to finish listening to the end of the 2nd OT. Double fury: TV feed cut and we lose.

Most of them just need to get their eyes static. For instance, Hawkins drops the ball to his knees with a huge knee bend. His lift becomes so long that it is very difficult for him to get his eyes still and keep balance. Kofi has improved tremendously, but his balance and eye position differ on every play...sometimes keeping on his toes and other times leaning away. They all can improve, even Plummer, by working on balance, eliminating the excess movement, and getting their eyes static before the shooting lift. In DFW's case, his speed of movement differs on almost every FF attempt....likely due to fatigue from hard play. He just needs to work on speed of his lift and forget trying to feel the shot. To simplify it all, balance, eyes still, ball comes to rest, then speed of lift, distance of lift, angle of lift. All are important, but the most violated are the first three. The eyes are the biggest key....a moving target is so hard to hit.
