So now that ADJW has solidified Groce and handled football in three days, how soon can he handle meeting with Tillman and his mom and getting him to buy in? :D

Well we can start this rumor. Whitman planned on attending BTT in Indy and Tilmon goes to school only 150 miles away, so go figure.:D

I think there may be legs to Tilmon and Goodwin giving a "silent" verbal. JW gave Groce another endorsement this morning on the score, specifically citing and using the word "recruits" and in the context of stability. Why such staunch support of Groce when his tenure has been below average at best, and this years finish has been his worst? it doesn't add up. JW doesn't seem bothered by pulling the trigger on what he wants (obviously). There must be some aces in the hole here, the rhetoric/backing from JW doesn't seem to match his high standards.

JG MUST have shared some information to get that vote of confidence. Best guess is it was recruit related. JW tells Groce ok, but you better seal the deal or the search starts. JG tells JW "understood"

I'm so punch drunk from the Lovie fest that I think I believe this :thumb:

I would be SHOCKED if Goodwin gave a silent verbal.

Maybe I should change to Tilmon only then but I do think there could be something to it. I just don't see JW being so quick to back Groce without some information that he has that we don't. Just IMO.

Anyone else notice Whitman mentioning toughness and togetherness in his press conference Saturday?

Even if he gave a silent verbal, it doesn't mean much until they are public about their committment. I think we have a good chance with Tilmon and Goodwin but let's not ahead of ourselves, JG was likely going to get a year anyway even without a monster class lined up this early. It would have been a huge mistake to not show full support for Groce if he was thinking about keeping him.

i hope you guys are right. my instinct however is that Whitman knows he still has a dumpster fire with the womens basketball program to deal with and needs to concentrate on a football staff and new womens coach very soon. So that gives Groce a little time but dont be fooled by a vote of confidence. that can CHANGE VERY QUICKLY.

i hope this doesnt get me barred again...

The local Sports talk radio show here in St Louis, had Tupper on discussing the Lovie hire, subject switched to basketball and Tupper basically said Illinois was in excellent shape with both Goodwin, and Tillman. Refereed to the 17 class as a poor mans Fab 5. Said JW has plans to meet with the recruits parents in the not to distant future.:chief::usa:

The Fab 5 HS rankings were #1, #3, #5, #9 and #84.

If Goodwin in interested in football, it couldn't hurt to bring Lovie along for the visit.

Well then would you classify it as a Rich Man's Fab 5? Because if it isn't a poor man's.......

I think we could classify it as a poor man's fab 5, but I do not think it is either poor or rich.

If that is your logic and reasoning, then any year we get 5 recruits we should refer to it as "poor man's fab 5."

It's appropriate when it's 5 recruits in what could be a game changing class. This really shouldn't be controversial.

Everything is controversial on Illinois Loyalty.

Michigan had a poor man's version of this Fab Five:

I think that is what I was trying to say. I think it should be considered a poor man's fab 5. Another poster didn't and responded with something along the lines of "if you don't think it is poor, then you must think it is rich.."

I disagreed with that logic. It is not either/or. It can be either or neither; I would consider it to be a poor man's fab 5 IF we land the class we think we have a chance at.

:shield:

EDIT: I SHOULD have said it my original posting that I do not think it HAS to be either poor or rich. I poorly worded my post.
