Truth be told, the most prominent reason I want for us to land Wilkes is so I can watch the Loosiers soil themselves over it.

And then beat them by 20 with Wilkes on the team when he arrives. =)

It seems like every year there is a senior surprise, a player who all of the sudden becomes a must get recruit. Possibly none this year, but they seem to pop out of the Chicago area. Some of the big ones are Patrick Beverly, Davis (summer), the PG from two years ago that went to St Johns. Myke Henry kind of popped late, but it was more his junior year.

I like the fact that I think he will fit very good into that WF/SF position on an established team.

I thought we had a decent shot at Kiir, but alas, looks like 0 for 3 is a foregone conclusion now.

We need another big from somewhere. This Wooten looks like a good player.
I really wanted Kiir but this Wooten IMO would be a great consolation prize. I did not see one shot outside of 3 feet but If this kid was 6'10 i'm sure he would be a 5 star or at the very least a high 4. :illinois:

From scrolling through the Indiana forums, it appears that the consensus is that it's down to Indiana and UCLA with UCLA leading. Seems like we are out on this one.

Wilkes could be choosing between Illinois and Illinois and lossier message boards would say the same thing

A thought about this Wooten kid: if we accept the premise that Fletch improves the athleticism/explosiveness of each player he gets ahold of, what does that mean for Wooten if he comes here? 😱

A Wooten visit in winter to Champaign vs those west coast schools? Think I know how that will turn out.

Yeah, (Wooten is like) Lowell except he can jump! :)

Lowell could jump very very well was said he could take a quarter off the top of the bankboard

Yeah, it was meant as a joke. I was trying to say comparing Wooten to Lowell (an All-American and Top 10 guy) is sort of like the earlier jokes that Chastain was like Bird, "but with a jump shot".

Nevermind, too clumsy I guess. Carry on.

Now weather is news to me. I don't recall a recruit saying they weren't going to go there because it's cold part of the year.

Lowell and his Providence St. Mel team had a ton of talent. Probably would of won the Class AA championship but they played in Class A. Lowell peaked early, always had the quick hops but didn't really develop much at Illinois.

I disagree about the development. He came to Illinois very raw. By the time he left, he was a hell of a player.

Not sure they would have won AA. The year before with the same talent, they lost to my wife's home town Mt. Pulaski in the semis. Pulaski was an outstanding basketball school, but did not have near the talent of St. Mel. They just played better basketball.

As much as it's stupid, it can have an effect.

It's possible I chose Illinois over Minnesota because of the horrendous weather up there when I visited. Probably would have gone to UI anyway, but the misery of trudging through slushy snow really sealed it.

Thinking about finishing second for Kigab: we seem to be in the running for just about every talented kid coming out of Canada lately. It's clear that we have a good presence up north. I think we'll likely see the Canadian pipeline pay dividends the first time we're in on a kid who's not being recruited by Oregon or a blueblood. No idea who could be in the mix in 2019, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a few Canadian prospects prioritized.

When I visited Bradley it was just a gloomy day and the campus was seemed dead. The advisor we were talking to also responded to our question of what do students do when not in class with "they mostly study." I ran as fast as possible from there, I highly doubt it was as boring as it seemed but that was the impression I received.

Even though I'm a Drake grad, I live near Peoria. Bradley is exactly as exciting as you thought that day.

Doesn't matter. For a player of Wilkes' caliber, every coach will oversign if they are fortunate enough to be in that position.

We should almost ban talking about the number of scholarships other schools have available when it's self-serving for the very simple reason that every single one of us would complain if Groce didn't do it to sign a top prospect.

Exactly the same situation for me when I visited Purdue for my recruiting trip. Except I was getting recruited for my brain, not my middling athleticism. And I wasn't even really getting recruited. FINE. It was just a regular college visit. But either way, that place was so depressing.

You got an accurate impression. I wouldn't go out wandering that neighborhood around BU. It's probably best to stay inside and study.

Same for me. I went on a rainy day and thought it was just a dreadful campus.
