I'm really not again Domask at all & I hope that he has a great year. Just feels like expectations are really high.
Obviously there will be additional additions and/or returns to the roster over the next few weeks.

But, suppose our rotation next year consisted of the guys we currently have on the board. Harris, Moretti, DGL, Domask, Rodgers, Goode, Hansberry, Dainja.

Domask would be our leading scorer by a mile and our highest minutes-getter.

So that's what's weird about the conversation about expectations on April 10, 2023. He's being placed into a "role player" role behind entirely hypothetical other pieces.

The conversation would also very obviously be different if he looked like you expect "Marcus Domask" to look, I'm afraid.

Did you see those games from the cheap seats?
It costs me more for my Sec 216 Illini tix than any seat I've had at a Saluki game...so, yes. And my opinion is worth way less than that. I think Illini fans will appreciate more than just Domask's game. In an interview after he had passed the 500 mark in rebounds, he noted that his sister had more rebounds than him and wondered why it took him so long to reach 500:ROFLMAO:

The University of New Mexico arena. The "PIT."

The Pit is an indoor arena in Albuquerque, New Mexico, serving primarily as the home venue of the University of New Mexico Lobos basketball teams. The facility opened in 1966 as University Arena but gained the nickname "The Pit" due to its innovative subterranean design, with its playing floor 37 feet (11 m) below street level. The arena is located on the UNM South Campus and has a seating capacity of 15,411 for basketball and up to 13,480 for concerts, with 40 luxury suites and 365 club seats.

The Pit has frequently hosted NCAA basketball tournament games, including the 1983 Final Four, which featured North Carolina State's upset win over Houston.

Is Domansk the new Webber?

He also went 4-19 his last two games against Drake.
If my math is right (highly questionable), he averaged 17.4 points against P6 teams over the last three seasons. He averaged just over 16 per game in total over those three seasons.

Yes, it was only four games against P6, but the point stands. (And yes, I didn’t include his freshman year where he scored 4 against Mizzou).

TSJ is way too old for another year of school for this "work on this" stuff to improve his draft potential. He can score 1,000 points a game and won't improve his NBA stock because he'll be like 24 years old. Just saying that rather bluntly. Maybe he likes school and feels like he can make more with NIL, which would be the only reason to come back.
You hit the nail on the head with your last sentence. If you're making good NIL money, there is no being too old. Look at what second round contracts are going for, compare it to your NIL offer and make a decision. If a guy hates the idea of going to school, there's an overseas option, but again....would you rather be in Turkey making $200K or on college making $500K?

Really liking the Domask get. yes we need more talent but also higher BB IQ; last year's team had the talent but couldnt' consistently connect the dots. Domask seems like a saavy veteran who will know how to fit in and play within his role

For all the Skyy hype that scholarship would have been better used on a talented mid major transfer…those guys are usually willing to grind and come with great BB IQ like you mentioned

He’s most likely going to be the 3rd or 4th option offensively for this team. That feels like pretty reasonable to be expectations wise.
If he is our 3rd or 4th option he will get a ton of good looks. I am fired up more than most. I am not saying he is as good as Wally Z or Thunder Dan but they were mid major all conference guys before the days on transfer portal and NIL. Nothing against RJ he is very athletic but don't think high mid major all conference guys can't play.

You have to have perimeter ballhandling and rim protection that are normally provided by true point guards and centers.

Versatile players CAN provide those things. Hawkins is a solid rim protector despite not being a chained-to-the-hoop 5, for instance. But you've gotta have those traits in the team or you become very easy to exploit.

We were a thin ballhandling team that became a deficient ballhandling team without Clark, then a disastrous ballhandling team with Epps taken out of the rotation. Neither of those guys were A+'s to begin with and then we eventually lost both of them and were relying on guys like Hawkins and Mayer to initiate offense. Disaster.

Major additions absolutely necessary in that area. Two guys who are true lead guards would be ideal, borderline necessary if reports about Moretti are true.
This. Got to have better ballhandling and decision-making. BU needs to be laser-focused on getting a solid PG.

Are we sure that Domask doesn't have the Covid year available too? We may have him for two years...

I think expectations only feel high now because we're thirsty for transfers and he's the first one.
Good grief, I get over the arrogance of some B10 fans. Especailly after watching the NCAA tournament. This guy is an all conference player from a solid mid major conference. I recall this conversation about Feliz, Jordan Clarkson, and if Ja Morant wanted to transfer as a freshman we would hear the same stuff. With all due repeat to RJ this valley l conference will out perform RJ next year and others next year wait n see. If he is our third or fourth best omg that's awesome!
