I can remember all the way back to after the 2021-22 season, when we lost First Team All-American Kofi, Trent, DMFW, Plummer, Grandison and Curbelo -- six of our top seven scorers -- and Brad managed to bring in a nice group of replacements that got us into the NCAA tournament the following year.

Enjoy the ride this year. Next year will take care of itself.

With the way the portal works and how much money we will have, next years team can be really good again

I watched every minute Schutt played and he had not been impressive. Not just about getting time on the floor, it's about what you do with them. The reason he wasn't getting that many minutes last year was because he didn't produce in the ones he did get. This year he was already relegated to further down the bench. For what we are going to have to replace next year I want transfers at least on the same level as this year. Guys that have already proven they can consistently score, rebound and play defense at the D1 level. A top notch ball handler/point gaurd needs to be priority #1.
I think you could say that about Podziemski, who couldn’t even get playing time for our lowly Illini, but now, after only one transfer year, is starting in the NBA. Schutt might just be Duke’s Podz, but I’m not sure we have shown enough for him to think we are his best option if he leaves.

People complaining about our transfers/recruiting the past two years are nuts.

Mayer was a 15 MPG player on a national championship team, then a starter the year following averaging almost 10 PPG. Shannon had an even bigger role at a great P5 school. We got three top 75 freshmen.

This past year we retained both Hawkins and Shannon, both were potential NBA draftees. We also got two low major transfers both of which averaged over 14 PPG their previous season.

I think BU deserves criticism and there have been times roster construction has been suspect but to say they haven’t been at least a top 25 caliber transfer + prep recruiting program the past couple years is objectively false. Retaining NBA talent players is a massive undertaking and something only the big boys can do. I fully trust this staff to have us back in the top 25 conversation next year.
For me it's not about the talent. It's about people minimizing the challenge of molding a bunch of guys who have never played together into a cohesive team that can make noise in the season and in march. Last year that didn't happen for us. It did for K-State, so it's not like it's impossible. But I'll be skeptical that it's the path to success under BU until he actually accomplishes that.

If your bar for a successful season is getting to the NCAA tournament I imagine we'll get over it next season.

These people have no idea my friend … 😎

They think Kofi, Ayo, Belo and Ace all just loved the scenery … 😂🤷🏻‍♂️
Wait...Wait...Wait...Are you telling me that many of the best players in the country aren't attracted to come to play at the top tourist destinations that are Urbana, IL, Lexington, KY, Durham, NC, or Lawrence, KS? So you are saying that there are other factors that may be more significantly impacting their decisions? Are you saying that fierce loyalty to the University of Illinois isn't the primary reason why those guys chose to come? Are you saying that the best players in the country are swayed by offers of money or other material benefits?

I can't believe it! I always thought they came because they enjoyed the beautiful Illinois winters! 😋🤦‍♂️

Just glad that we have guys that know how to play the game that is college recruiting, and a fan base to support it!

As an Arizona alum (and grad asst. coach), I cringe at the thought of Sean Miller EVER becoming associated with an Illini basketball program of which I have been enthralled since the mid 1950s. That Whitman would entertain the thought of bringing a proven cheater into the program is unacceptable and has never been entertained by him to my knowledge and never should be. At my age, BU may be the last Illini coach of my time and I am fine with that....but Miller replacing him could be a death sentence for the program regardless of number of wins. If you need to cheat to win, or condone it, you should not even play the game....am I right Michigan?

1. Josh likes to win … You like to win … I like to win … “Cheating” was what it took to win and now “cheating” is fair game so … 🤷🏻‍♂️

2. Sean was never convicted of anything … So let’s get the record straight on “proven cheater” …

3. Brad is not as clean as everybody thinks … Josh is aware of this … He looks the other way … Why do you think Jamall Walker got shown the door ?

Because he was, or because he wasn't?

It sounds like Indy is saying Jamall Walker was shown the door because perhaps he wasn't tolerating the 'cheating' or maybe went up the chain of command reporting it? So, Josh was forced to not look the other way? It is confusing because I seem to remember it being a Josh decision and Underwood not being happy about it.

I'm thinking it's more that Jamall talked a bit more than he should've.
