Here is the tax break down on 4M in IL. I omitted retirement donations, and property taxes to simplify things.
Tax TypeMarginal Tax RateEffective Tax Rate2023 Taxes*
Federal37.00%35.88%$1,435,208
FICA2.35%2.55%$102,132
State4.95%4.95%$197,880
Medicare0.9%0.84%$33,750
Take-Home Pay$2,231,030

For entertainment, I looked at CA and its 14.63% state tax at that level (13.86% effective rate). You get to keep $1,874,710.

So if I was coach and made over 4 million a year you probably clear 2.5 million after taxes. I would probably invest 200-500k into a NIL fund each year to get the player I wanted.

At some point programs are going to figure out how to funnel money into NIL accounts. If you have a good program you will make more money. I don’t see after the courts ruled the NCAA can do anything and with NIL middlemen keeps the players from getting paid directly from the NCAA.

And if you managed one of those funds you could make a killing
I think the truly elite programs have already figured out how to funnel NIL money, especially given they were already paying these kids pre-NIL.

I image we will find a real starting PG from the portal rather than using Ty, MD, or Storr.
Maybe Dior Johnson (as previously hinted at). *shrug*

My semi-realistic transfer options (and who the hell knows if any of these guys will actually transfer?):
- Storr (but I'm still surprised to see all the rumors about this one)
- Johnson (lots of competition for him, I'm sure, and I'm not sold he's a fit given his past legal issues)
- CJ Jones (UIC)
- Kylan Boswell (although is he a realistic option?!?)

Players I'm curious about, due to coaching change or lack of PT:
- Jalen Washington (UNC)
- Seth Trimble (UNC)
- Xavier Johnson (SIU) -- COVID year still? Also, he's short. Hmm.
- Tre White (Louisville)

Thanks for reminding me. We will see about Dior but obviously a starting PG is in Brad’s mind. Hopefully Moretti can earn some minutes, too.

After watching the Coleman interview, I would like to put my guess of him coming back at 60%. I know, I know, probably wishful thinking but it's just a guess. I will leave Domask at 50/50 because the NCAA is involved, but feel they are losing power each day/week. I like that I can make these guesses knowing either way.....our team will be loaded with dudes...dawgs next year!!!!

Transfer guard, Storr, MD, TY, and Kalkbrenner would be a dirty lineup imo(think Ty is perfectly suited to play the 4 and do a bit of everything) plus you would have Morez, Amani, Sincere, Niko/DGL, and ideally another combo guard/wing transfer maybe Goode too then Butler could be brought around slowly and jaksty could redshirt.

Does Marcus want to try to go pro(maybe overseas) or is there a reason he couldn't get a medical redshirt?
Overseas was my thought too. DB's note conflicts with what other insiders said last week, but I imagine first team Big Ten will increase his value to prospective teams.

Jalen and Seth if they were gonna transfer should have done so. They both have more playing time available next year since RJ and Bacot will be gone.
Jalen is an intriguing talent. Seth can dunk and play strong D but he’s not a scorer at all. Can’t run a high major team. Not a gifted passer like Cadeau. Isn’t a three point threat. If he transfer it’ll be to a much lesser program. Penn State seems like to like UNC transfers.

He cannot get a medical redshirt because he did not lose eligibility the year he was hurt. Others in the same position have applied for the waiver and failed, including Tommy DeVito at Illinois and including Cam Spencer at UConn literally a week ago.

To the extent insiders are reporting optimism among our staff, our staff has misguided optimism on this question.

The insider chatter on DeVito from the football staff was "hey, it's worth a shot". It was. It is on Domask. But the culture of optimistic tea leaf grasping around here is developing a wrong impression about the ability of Domask to get an extra year of eligibility.

A completely different take on what we have heard regarding Domask recently. Curious why and what happened. Prospected better in another situation? Waiver get denied or hearing of better opportunities elsewhere?
