If you're getting at what I think you're getting at then, most definitely.

If you two are both getting at the same thing...could you tell the rest of us?

There are a few things I could think of but I don't know if any of them would be true.

Hopefully it has more to do with an open scholarship for a talented player that we can now take and not something about how JGood could have negatively affected our program/his teammates with a potentially bad attitude/bad behavior...etc.

I think he's saying that it opens up room for either Scruggs or Wilkes or both.

JG is a good player, but he is not as good as a player as Quintin Richardson. So to say he is a weak team to the NCAA is foolish. Ben Simmons couldn't take an LSU team with much more talent to the NCAA.

When we landed Javon Pickett I felt the wing position had become pretty crowded. To have landed JG would of been to many players for that position, possibly squeezing somebody out.

Lets get a PG, a young big, and a 5th year transfer big and all is good. That way we can roll a scholly for 2018 and hopefully get two great players.

Agree with the 5th year. I think Finke would be fine along with whoever.

I wish him the same amount of luck as I would wish the backup punter for Jacksonville State, or the starting small forward for Monmouth. I don't wish him good luck - that is reserved for players on my team, and I don't wish him bad luck - that is reserved for IU and Mizzou.
Could not have said it better. This is exactly how I feel. I cannot and will not wish him luck. I flatly hope that Ford fails at SLU and that jgood doesn't succeed at whatever Ford sold him on, running the point or whatever. That said, I hope nothing bad happens to the kid.

On to the Illini, which is the only team and the only players who I wish luck to.

Losing out on Goodwin is a blessing in disguise for our program.

Think about that for a minute before you launch arrows.

Carpet, I have been thinking this for awhile just didn't want to say it. Lets just say I get a little bit of a JRichmond vibe here. Team chemistry is very important.

What are you guys hearing? Jeremy Werner was calling him a potential "culture changer" (in a positive way). I am extremely (albeit ignorantly) bummed that we didn't get him.

He isn't the onlt guy with heart playing bb, look ar the vast physical improvement in jcl, kipper, jordan, Dj.

When I watch Goodwins highlights, and even some games, I just never see anything that says "wow" or "this kid is special" or "what a monster". Usually its fairly meh. Nothing real athletic, no extraordinary plays. Lacks high end athleticism. A couple good buckets or passes here and there. But then you see the stat sheet and see he has filled it up with a triple double and willed his team to a win. I have been questioning how well his game will translate to the next level with guys who are bigger, longer and more athletic. He gets so many rebounds and points off second chance and garbage buckets as a 6'4 guard. Can he do that on a court filled with 6'7 to 7'0 guys who can all leap better and are longer? I dont know. He will certainly have an easier time in the A10 than the B1G. We shall see.

Pride in the state

Is it possible that this board's desire of pride in the state might have more to do with the state itself and not the academic institution? What with the last governor in prison and the state drowning in red ink and gridlock in Springfield, wouldn't a HS athlete want to flee and cross the border?

Cause these things are all on a high school kid's radar.

Yeah I bet that's definitely it, high school kids are all about state government :)

This is a possibility for all of those fiscally conservative recruits that really want to make a statement against the spendthrift state of Illinois... Which is none of them.

Guess I'm a little more disappointed in this one than most of you. Kid is a winner. Period. A guy that plays with that kind of heart is rare and a guy we need. Nothing against the other guys, but he would have been my first choice.

4 pages...just 4 pages. That's all Goodwin gets on the SLU board as a welcome present. Had he committed to the Illini, there would have been 40 pages here discussing his decision and welcoming him. Too bad.

I was just browsing around there and seen that too!! Heck, their 2017 recruiting thread only has 59 pages and it was started almost 3 years ago. What few fans they have are pretty delusional too. One guy said that with Goodwin and the 3 transfers from power conferences they got, that pretty much guaranteed them a spot in the dance. Another guy said that multiple top flight recruits are now going to jump at the chance to play with Goodwin

Doubtful. Tilmon's commitment thread is currently at 12 pages.

About as much on the radar as this foolish idea that a kid needs to make his decision based having pride for his state school. The blasting of Goodwin for that in this thread is comical. If Wilkes or Scruggs committed, should we get all over them for not showing loyalty to their state school? Come on. If a kid is going to have pride in any area at all, there's a much better chance it's going to be for his home town, which is what St. Louis is.

Think you are half right Golf.

For JGood I'm guessing the "home team" is honestly probably either UI or SLU imo. We are farther away certainly but way more relevant. He will be a big fish in a small pond at SLU, but playing against cupcakes will hurt his future big time I think.

Wish him well, and maybe it's sour grapes but think he will regret his decision in a year or two.

It's not about being a homer, it's about telling it like it is, which is, if you are from the state of Illinois, as a high school basketball player, you should have some some pride in wanting to stay home and help the state school get back to its former glory days. We are not that far removed from 2005. Yea, it's harder for the younger generation to remember the Flyin Illini, heck, I was born 1 year before they went to the Final 4. But, as I watched Illinois over the years, I learned more about the Flyin Illini and take a lot of pride myself in the past success that this school has had.

You would think bball players in this state would want to help the state school get back to its former glory days and get the ship rolling. Sadly, too many players these days get caught up with other thoughts on their mind.

So where you are born should decide where you go to school? How absurd. What if he wanted to go to Illinois State? Would that be ok since its a state school? or can three and four star recruits only go to the U of I at Campaign?
I actually think a kid should go where he wants to go and playing time should be a huge factor.

Something totally meaningless to ponder, and a questionable theory to test, whilst waiting for something (hopefully good) to happen: Will Goodwin's choice of SLU result in his dropping significantly in the rankings?
