I’ve always been of the opinion that the at larges should all be the play-in games and all conference champions should get a spot in the field of 64.

It sucks these small schools who dream of a chance to get in (even as a 16 seed) have to play ANOTHER game to grab that spot.

Make the last 4 in at-larges battle the first 4 out to see who gets those last spots. It’s make for more dramatic play in games.

(I know this is the case for 2 of the 4 games, I’d like it to be all 4)

Does anyone know what day / time our 2nd game would be if we get there? I’m assuming around 5pm on Sunday? Is there anyway to confirm that at this point?

If it's like last year time/TV for Sunday games will get released around 12:30am CT Saturday morning. Hopefully they'll speed it up this year, & I thought the First Round time/TV release was fast this time after the Selection Show.

Matt Norlander on twitter is quite fast posting time/TV info right when it's released-

Buzz has the oratory skills of a 4th grader doing a book report. He's big mad about not making the tournament and now doing he's doing his own research on the NCAA Selection Committee. He's essentially calling the committee corrupt for not picking his extremely mediocre A&M team. I get what he's going for, but man, I don't think this is as good of a look as he, and apparently the school, think it is.

I couldn't even make it through his entire statement, but I give Buzz bonus points for leading off with the middle finger nose scratch.

Joe Lunardi picked Illini for the Final Four, one of only 2 out 54 'experts' to do so:

ESPN Expert Picks
Honestly think our quadrant is wide open - there's a variety a good teams but no great ones: Houston's a top efficiency team that is unproven, Zona and Villanova are the top seeds but have meh defenses for their seeds. Anyone could make it out and we're certainly in the mix

You're correct Dan. Schedule doesn't come out until after all the games on each day are played. If I had to guess, I'd say we'd be the 2nd game of the day in Pittsburgh. Considering how they like to have a standalone early game, my guess is that Villanova could be in that early one with Illinois playing a mid-afternoon game. Of course I may be completely wrong about this and they schedule Duke in that early time slot and we don't play until sometime Sunday night.

Anyone else have one of these and know the backstory behind them?

Even with that I don't know what numbers he looked at. Their ranking using any of Net, Ken Pom, or RPI have them on the outside looking in.
If illini went 23 and 12, got 5th in big ten regular season, and 2nd in conference tournament compared to 17 and 14, 8th in sec regular season and lost in the first round of conference tournament and thA & M got in and Illini did not, everyone on this forum would be furious.

I don't have one myself, but if I remember the book Brett Dawson wrote chronicling that team right, "I do this!" was something players would yell in practice after they made a big shot or play. I can't remember who was credited with coining the phrase, but it sounds like a Dee-ism.

Yes, it was a phrase that team was known for. Story on the shirts themselves: I think it was the old Illiniboard, but a poster there who lived in Michigan had them made and gave them away even mailing them out all for free. I think he gave away several thousand.

As I'm forced to watch Rex Chapman, Seth Davis, Candace Parker and Nabil Karim in the studio for "The FIrst Four", it prompts me to think back to the glorious and innovative early days of ESPN's coverage of the NCAA tournament ---- with the likes of these classic studio analysts, Sports Center hosts and NCAA game reporters.

George Grande
Greg Gumble
Len Berman
Bob Ley

Not all records are created equal. Under every one of the three different methodologies I mentioned Michigan is ahead of A & M by a comfortable margin, and it pains me to say it because I despise all things Michigan. Maybe Buzz will learn to not load his schedule with 8 quad 4 opponents next year if he wants in the dance. Quality over quantity.

I really liked Reggie Miller as a player, but man is he bad as an analyst. Would take known Illini hater Bardo (/s) over him any day of the week. Heck, give me Bill Walton. At least there's some WTF entertainment value there.
Reggie is commentating? I thought he would be living at Wendy's again for the tournament.

Am I the only one who thinks there is no way in heck Villanova makes the final four? I’ve seen tons of picks for them.

I will be SHOCKED if they make it Tennessee AND Arizona (or us)

Nova's biggest strength is that they're the best free throw shooting team in the country at 82%. If they're ahead late, it's just about game over.

Do I think they're overrated? Yes. Do I want anything to do with them in a tournament format? Absolutely not.
