Being dorked can be disruptive to a players mental state.
What is starting to happen with Ty Rodgers in his sophomore season where teams sag off of him into the paint is basically what happened to DMW during his sophomore season. IIRC, DMW more-or-less said it hurt his feelings. Then, he did something about it. Let's hope Ty is motivated enough to substantially improve his shooting -- I think he is. Is it too much to ask for 40+% from 3-pt range from Ty during his junior season a la DMW? Probably so, but a guy can dream.

Great question and thought but DMW shooting form was never a problem. Ty would have to completely change his form to have a chance at 40%

Friends of mine (Kansas fans) went to the scrimmage game earlier this year. They said they couldn’t believe how quiet it was in State Farm Center. They expected it to be a loud since Illinois was beating the preseason #1 team. They have been to many different arena and were underwhelmed by the crowd at Illinois!

Maybe it was because it was a scrimmage…🤷‍♂️
I was there and it was very loud!

Maybe also because the tickets started originally at $80.. It was simply a fundraiser and yes it was a dead crowd... Most of our fans are just not crazy stand and yell type of fans.. they like to sit on their hands. I think it is funny when I get mad and scream !!!!!!!! at how many people stare at me like I am crazy
I definitely agree with this. I think the issues holding back the SFC are more fan related than anything else. I’ve been to probably 5-7 games the last two years and it isn’t uncommon for me to be the only one proactively cheering. In my observations it just seems like the crowd at homes games skews older and quiet. Maybe a byproduct of ticket prices?

I hope we are learning vicariously through Michigan State today. The Spartans came into Welsh Ryan absolutely full of themselves. They thought they could hoist awful shots and switch off mentally and still beat this Northwestern team and they are getting a comeuppance in a big way right now. Unlike Sparty, we need to go in there ready to compete hard,

Think this is the reason Sencire took the redshirt year. He wants to be more than a defensive specialist. Believe both he and Ty will be much improved offensively. Neither have shot horribly (except for FTs last year), they just don’t shoot. It may be more of a confidence problem than a capability as well as role definition. I will be surprised if Ty isn’t taking more shots as the season progresses.

Competing hard, which to me means bringing energy and competence from the opening tip, is not a primary concern for me with this team. These "old guys" have all seen 120+ college regular season and tournament games. They know that every possession requires attention and hard work at both ends. More importantly, the two frosh that are seeing playing time are getting a great learning experience in that regard in spades. Attitude is not the problem which BU understands fully. 7'4" talented guys are.

IMO, the normal up/down swings for a team in the B10 will be a lot less with this years Illini. They are "old" playing their last college season, and having fun as a team. I think if we have a good start and go up double digits in the 1st half, then Michigan State will fold. I am guessing an Illini win 85-68.

Yeah, DMW always had a really nice shooting form. He always had the look of being a shooter....they just didn't go in.

Izzo laying into his players after NU in press conference

We better come prepared to play Thursday
He kept the radio waiting for a long time and then sent an assistant instead.

Any example of a player having a career game against us....he is a decent player for sure , but have that game ??.....unexpected I would assume what the Illini thought would happen......JMHO
Sometimes the door opens for a kid and they just walk through it, right?

Of course, the last time he did that MSU went to Lincoln and lost in a way that looked quite a bit like the way they lost to Wisconsin and Northwestern. Guy just needs to buy a pickleball paddle and move to Boca like everyone else his age.

MSU dropped significantly in Torvik after tonight.

Still top 10. Oh, Bart...

Don’t really want a pissed off Sparty & Izzo on Thursday …. Are they really this bad?
Looks like that is what me might get.....

“It’s a must-win,” Spartans point guard A.J. Hoggard said. “There’s no other way around it. There’s no sugarcoating that. We’ve got to get back to the drawing board and get a win in Champaign.”

The Illini will have to play another focused game. MSU will come in looking to beat up somebody up after the loss at Northwestern. Somebody is going to have to slow Walker down, he is back on his game and shooting well. Need to keep him out of the lane. Let's hope Sisoko doesn't kill anybody.

With both teams coming off losses, I expect both to bounce back and be on their A game. Luckily, I think our A game is better than theirs.

Biggest thing I'm worried about is Hoggard guarding Domask. He takes pride in his defense and also has the size handle Domask.
