They went to the free throw line 32 times in our house and we got there 15 times??? WTF. That was the game changer. We played hard but no way we committed that many more fouls than Purdue.

Kofi didn't fall into Eddy, Eddy hooked him his elbow from behind and dragged him backwards to the floor. Had a perfect angle from where I was sitting.

Kofi's second foul was also a terrible call. He was behind Williams who jumped forward for the rebound and they called Kofi for the push from behind but he never extended or even really bumped Williams.

Before one of Sasha's late 3s the refs also missed him stepping out of bounds on the defensive rebound. The entire end of the arena by the basket was calling it but the refs didn't.

Unfortunately they believe what they type.......I set a record today by putting the most posters on ignore ever in one day.......if anyone thought the refs had no effect on this game then they are no post mates of mine............Everyone who watches college BB knows a ref will miss one from time to time....it's the blatant missing of numerous calls every game they ref that is so frustrating .....i always ask who the refs are because certain refs WILL impact the game negatively for the Illini........

are the most inept refs I have ever seen .....last time i checked and I don't have a link , but I think they make $ 3,000 for every game they ref..........it's about time the B1G and fans got their money's worth......

This was a horrific display of terrible judgment calls that were so awful that if they perform that way in any other job they would have been fired years ago.....
2 of the 3 refs I named above have some shady background baggage so take that into consideration when you former post mates post that the refs didn't impact the game ....they do impact EVERY game as they make the calls and there should be a grading component on every game they call..........

I am very upset and I can't travel to the games and pay mucho $$$ for tickets ....Probably a good thing as I would be booted before the firast media time out........BTW , was that dj bald head ref threatening an Illini fan with ejection if they didn't set down .....That's what brian or deon was saying on the radio feed .........Rabbit ears or guilty conscience ??

Great game. The better team lost today. That happens. I'm so proud and impressed by our guys. We played 29 minutes without our All American. And Purdue still needed 2OT's and 3 referees to beat us.

Assembly Hall was as electric as it's been in a long long time. Let's make that the norm.

Curbelo was our MVP and didn't even need to make a 3 to impact the game. Hopefully that quiets the posters who used him as a punching bag the last two months.

Looking forward to the revenge game.

Sometimes you just have to look past the final score and recognize the Heart of a Champion. Today was such a day. On both sides. Pure heart... just going AT IT... never quitting for a moment. A joy to watch and a great day to be Orange. And the Illini found a way to compete mostly without their Big Man. The Heart of a Champion all over that floor on both sides.

This is why we love this Game. A thing of beauty like today.

Additional Note to University of Illinois College of Medicine: Please issue a Medical Degree to Andre Curbelo RIGHT NOW. That man is a SURGEON.

Couldn't agree more! I graduated with Bardo and loved him as a player but he is awful to listen to ... especially for our games. I would like to submit a formal request for Robby Hummel to call the game and to never have Big Baldy officiate U of I games moving forward! :shield:

Definition of a "quality loss" for me.

Belo's back. BBV played his heart out. Plummer worked his way out of his shooting slump. We could have folded at the end of regulation, but we fought like heck to force two OTs.

Kofi had a bad game, but expect him to bounce back soon. Let's return the favor when we play at Mackey.

The arc doesn't matter on these types of plays, only on drives where the defensive player is in the paint and the offensive player is entering the paint.

Lots of good, lots of bad in that game. The one and only think I want to highlight was the performance and effort of Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk. That was a Buster Douglas type performance. He went from getting human victory cigar minutes to being a critical contributor vs. the best bigs the NCAA has to offer in the biggest game of the season.

Shout out to Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk.

Kofi had a tough day. Refs definitely affected the outcome in favor of the boils. Kofis frustration came out after being repeatedly fouled with no calls, and got more physical himself. Refs had whistles waiting for him. All the Curbelo critics have an extra large CROW pie to gulp down. Overall good game for the Illini, just the wrong outcome.

A couple games in the past year or so stick out as very poorly officiated and this was not one of them.

I disagree completely with you on this one. The game as absolutely not called the same on both ends, They let Purdue get away with a lot that was called on us. I go to all of the games, and this was a poorly officiated game all around that impacted us much more than Boilers. Painters teams always get the princess treatment from the refs.

I’ll never understand why people say things like “if we would have [shot better/turned it over less/rebounded] we would have won so complaining about the refs is wrong” or “reffing is really difficult and they’ll never get everything right so complaining about the refs is wrong” and so on. Both of those things are true and also completely unrelated to the fact that the refs frequently impact the outcome of games, so what’s the point? Just, you know, let us be mad about it and go back to making a cardigan out of human hair clippings or whatever other weird thing keeps your boat afloat.

For me, a moral victory isn’t good enough when you’re at home and are competing for a conference title. Sure, we played with a lot of heart, but you gotta win games like this. We needed this one to shut up the critics saying we still haven’t beaten a ranked team. Sucks because we easily could have won, but that technical on Payne was killer and Stephanovich hit some ridiculous 3’s.

I am, however, glad to see Curbelo back and playing great.

And I agree with you about those officials who make it to much about themselves. I've never appreciated TV Ted Valentine's "style" and don't get how MLB umpires interact with coaches and players. Know the rules, use good mechanics, call what you see and see what you call, Get The Big Ones, Make It Be There.

I will say this, you will never see a game where every call is correct, and likely, 99% of us will never understand what the correct calls are. I sure don't, and I have played organized hoops for 35 years, been trained in correct officiating, and even called a few games. I had a friend who was an official and called games in the MVC and B1G for decades. First of all, they all take pride in making the correct call. Secondly, some calls have to be interpreted by what is seen and they can NEVER be seen from all angles by anyone. Finally, timing is critical. They know they miss things....and they know they are affected by crowd noise and momentum. Bottom line, they always make calls in real time by what they see. Replay has helped them get things right in some cases, but will not, at this time, and maybe never, allow that in real time. The only problem I ever have with officials are those who like the spotlight....and those are less and less prevalent as review and renew committees are weeding them out. It is a thankless job, but overall, is filled by a pretty admirable bunch of people.
