The most obvious officiating difference was Kofi getting a foul when he fell into Eady and no foul was called on Eady when he dived into Curbelo
Unfortunately they believe what they type.......I set a record today by putting the most posters on ignore ever in one day.......if anyone thought the refs had no effect on this game then they are no post mates of mine............Everyone who watches college BB knows a ref will miss one from time to time....it's the blatant missing of numerous calls every game they ref that is so frustrating .....i always ask who the refs are because certain refs WILL impact the game negatively for the Illini........Stick to your guns Skyldub! You’re absolutely spot on about the stripes on this one. I’m hoping our post mates on here are just egging you on for the sake of arguing. Scales tipped by the refs. No doubt about it.
He’s “under the weather”. Totally bummed we couldn’t see more of himHawkins with only 4 minutes?
Ouch
BU said he was throwing up before the game , and at halftimeHawkins with only 4 minutes?
Ouch
Me too. And afterwards.BU said he was throwing up before the game , and at halftime

Couldn't agree more! I graduated with Bardo and loved him as a player but he is awful to listen to ... especially for our games. I would like to submit a formal request for Robby Hummel to call the game and to never have Big Baldy officiate U of I games moving forward!Bardo makes me remember Dakich isn't all that bad. I have to turn off the sound when Bardo has an Illini game. His "better put your big boy pants on" every 5 minutes is getting old. But the good news of the day is that the Illini made a game of it without Kofi...and Belo was a lot better than I expected in his first game back. Better days are coming. (I still think the turning point of the game was Payne's flagrant 1.)
The arc doesn't matter on these types of plays, only on drives where the defensive player is in the paint and the offensive player is entering the paint.DMW was standing straight up, but of his heels were inside the arc, or whatever that line is called.
.....which included halftime barfingFlu, per BU.
This Painter interview is impressive.
I disagree completely with you on this one. The game as absolutely not called the same on both ends, They let Purdue get away with a lot that was called on us. I go to all of the games, and this was a poorly officiated game all around that impacted us much more than Boilers. Painters teams always get the princess treatment from the refs.Dude you can slow-mo every call and it looks bad. The refs did Kofi a favor and swallowed the whistle on one when he had 3 fouls and then he picked up the fourth like a couple seconds later.
A couple games in the past year or so stick out as very poorly officiated and this was not one of them.
And Kofi is a liability /sBut..but...but.......fouls call themselves!
There was another one on Edey's put back. Totally got BBV in the back and shoved him out of boundsOh right, like the time he absolutely smoked BBV to the floor while hacking his entire arm. Bardo said no foul so I digress....
I've long been a fan from what I see of him. Seems like a solid guy, runs what appears to be a strong, ethical program, rooted in Purdue and the conference, even temperament, little drama. This Painter interview is impressive.
I have never reffed at the college level, just high school, but, I have to ask (based on your deference of this game’s officiating), HOW do you call that foul on DMFW?Great post, thank you for sharing. I used to challenge the "bad officiating cost us the game" posts here but gave it up years ago. I have not officiated basketball, but did work high school and college football for 30 years and you hit some very salient points here. The armchair experts on this board are every bit as delusional and wrong about what is happening at Illinois basketball (and football) games as they were in my games. Officials do not care who wins or loses, they are not negatively influenced by crowd pressure or even coaching input (especially at the D1 level), and they try to get every call right. Counting fouls/penalties/free throws and claiming a difference in the totals indicates officiating bias is just plain wrong- one team committed more fouls than the other, period. Fouls call themselves, the officials just blow the whistle/throw the flag and identify the culprit and associated penalty. After 30 years I am cynical enough to recognize that fans will never understand let alone appreciate any of it.
And I agree with you about those officials who make it to much about themselves. I've never appreciated TV Ted Valentine's "style" and don't get how MLB umpires interact with coaches and players. Know the rules, use good mechanics, call what you see and see what you call, Get The Big Ones, Make It Be There.
GO ILLINI!
Get outta here with that rational bs! Just kidding, good post!Kind of get a kick out of all the complaining on ref calls. I would bet my life that none of those posts come from anyone who has ever refereed a B1G game between two teams of this ilk. Of course, there never has been a game like this between two teams with this much size, speed, and quickness. It is extremely difficult.
I will say this, you will never see a game where every call is correct, and likely, 99% of us will never understand what the correct calls are. I sure don't, and I have played organized hoops for 35 years, been trained in correct officiating, and even called a few games. I had a friend who was an official and called games in the MVC and B1G for decades. First of all, they all take pride in making the correct call. Secondly, some calls have to be interpreted by what is seen and they can NEVER be seen from all angles by anyone. Finally, timing is critical. They know they miss things....and they know they are affected by crowd noise and momentum. Bottom line, they always make calls in real time by what they see. Replay has helped them get things right in some cases, but will not, at this time, and maybe never, allow that in real time. The only problem I ever have with officials are those who like the spotlight....and those are less and less prevalent as review and renew committees are weeding them out. It is a thankless job, but overall, is filled by a pretty admirable bunch of people.
