Obviously Nolan 's first HR at home to win the home opener is the main thing that happened today, but for my money Wong's return to St. Louis today was the highlight. One of the few guys I can say I'll root for as though they were still a Cardinal, no matter what jersey they wear.
I'm still p*ssed he isn't a Cardinal. But damn I love seeing his emotion in the return and the fans showing there love. Wong was my favorite Cardinal and like you I will still follow him for the rest of his career.

Noticed that Dexter Fowler tore his ACL and is out for the year.

Also...over/under on when/ if Carpenter gets his first hit. 0-10 so far. I think he had 1 hit in spring training. Sad.

2 hits in Spring. You know ... I just am about to give up on certain things with this team.

Looking at the Cardinals schedule, it looks like they'll be done with their season series with two NL East teams by the end of this month. Along with the series this week, they also play 3 games in DC early next week against the Nationals. And they'll face the Phillies in Philadelphia this weekend for three games and then will face them in a 4 game series at Busch the last week of this month.

Feel good about this offense output tonight, I hope we can string some offensive games together. Haven’t seen that in a few years it seems.

Molina caught his 2,000th career game today. Only 6th catcher in MLB history to ever do that. Only difference between he and the other 5 (Pudge Rodriguez, Carlton Fisk, Bob Boone, Gary Carter, Jason Kendall) is that Molina is the only one to do it with the same team. By the end of this season, he could be up to 4th all time in games caught. He'd have to play to about age 42 (He turns 39 in July) to pass Pudge Rodriguez though.

And of course, the starting pitcher for his 2,000th career game at catcher today just happened to be his long time battery mate, Adam Wainwright.

Unless they skip his next start in the rotation, John Gant will finally start against a team outside the NL East. All his starts thus far this season have came against Miami, Washington, or Philadelphia.

So Votto and Suarez went hitless in this series? That doesn’t happen much. Need to cleanup the wildness in the late inning relief.

Nice game by Martinez tonight. Not too sure I agreed with him batting the 8th, but it worked out.

He has pitched well this season and has had some tough luck. I’m very happy for him tonight. Night and day with Dylan in the two hole. Let’s home we can string some series wins together. Starters are starting to go deeper, helps the pen and the offense has been more consistent.

Waino and C-Mart going as deep as they have the last two nights have saved the bullpen quite a bit, especially with not being sure what you'll get out of Oviedo tomorrow night. As they pointed out on the broadcast, now tomorrow Shildt has options rather than choices for who he uses out of the bullpen if necessary.

Phillies pitcher should have been tossed after hitting Arenado. He clearly was hitting him on purpose. They had been warned previously. The Phillies were hit were not intentional, as it ended up costing the Cardinals the game. Hopefully Harper is ok and back soon.

Carp did it again. Back to back games with 3 run hr. He's on a hot streak. His average is all the way up to .116.

Wainwright expected back Monday vs. the Mets. Martinez to start in his place on Sunday.

Ponce de Leon put on IL with right shoulder inflammation. Woodford recalled from alternate training site.

Albert was DFA'ed today. I hope the Cards can pick him up and send him out as a Cardinal. (I have no hard feelings for him. He is still El Hombre to me)

Does that mean that he won't get paid $1 M/year for 10 years in retirement, to stay an Angel?

yes he will.
ESPN

Pujols' deal with the Angels comes with a 10-year personal-services contract that will pay him an extra $1 million a year to basically serve as a public face for the organization -- a role Pujols has previously expressed interest in pursuing after his playing career ends.
