Surprisingly , Joe West has called a pretty good game behind the plate tonight

Man. Reyes, I didn’t have a good feeling when they brought him in. McFarlane was ridding steady with pop-outs. Ugh. So many missed opportunities. So many runners left in scoring position.

I like Reyes but he had a bad 2nd half of the season. I was honestly hoping not to see him tonight. I really don't understand turning to him in such an important spot.

Seems to me looking back , that Nolan A. was off some since the catch falling onto the tarp play...it wasnt long after that game that he had the tightness in his back and never regained his timing and prowess at the plate.....

A lot has been said about why Shildt brought in Reyes in the bottom of the ninth and I was wondering myself why Gallegos was pitching in the 8th inning...

Oh well , the season is over now....I'm looking now at will the cardinals sign Seager and trade DeJong..........

#2 Seager, #3 T Turner #4 J Turner. That was the critical inning. Reyes had an easier inning, in theory, with Smith, Pujols, and Beaty. If someone gets on base the# 8 and 9 hitters are coming up. If you are a major league pitcher, you should have been able to handle it. Even the weakest should.

Good point....thanks for sharing that....It seemed that the Cardinals were squandering their opportunities and sooner or later the Dodgers would break through.....

As I read in one of the articles this morning it seemed the redbirds reverted to their early in the season hitting woes and at times they had Max S. on the ropes but never could get the " big " hit...

Yeah bringing in the Gallegos in the 8th was the right move. High leverage situation against their best bats. Now, what Schildt should have done in the 9th is bring on Jack or Whitley instead of Reyes. There's a reason Reyes lost the closer job, and I don't think it does him any service to put him in a high pressure situation with a baserunner on, when he's been struggling of late.

For what’s its worth, Waino pitched a great game. He gave up the homer and seemed to take it personally. Turned into an aggressive pitcher after that - I liked what I saw from him. But honestly, it looked like a game from June. Just played too tight. The last two series felt a bit that way (save the playoff clincher). It almost felt like they eased up on the gas and got cold.

Shildt fired over philosophical differences.

In a stunning move less than a week after he guided the team to the postseason for the third consecutive season, the Cardinals have fired manager Mike Shildt.

John Mozeliak, president of baseball operations, said the move was made due to "philosophical differences." Mozeliak added that it was a baseball decision, related to the direction he and ownership intended to guide the major-league team and not anything beyond the ballpark.

"You want to make sure that everyone is on the same page," chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. said.
Shildt declined comment at this time.

The timing of the announcement indicates how stunning it is. It is unusual for a National League team to make such a decision and announcement on the same day as an elimination playoff game.

Well, that caught me by surprise....completely by surprise.......

Me, too. Shocking. Sure hope they get a top notch man to take his place.

"Philosophical differences."

I wonder what they were?

I wonder whether anyone better is available/going to be available?

I don't like this decision at all.

The wrong manager got fired today. Yankees should have fired Boone.
