Our only hope for TSJ to play this season and/or not have his life completely torpedo by missing the draft is if the accuser or the DA drops the charges.

Our only hope for them to drop the charges is to rally to the court of public opinion so they feel the heat for pressing such nebulous charges.
Unfortunately I feel the same. The court of public opinion is king here. Obviously insiders feel something is going on behind the scenes. The Self reports if true are encouraging. I think in the court of public opinion he probably has more sway than the DA. So maybe the accuser has some dubious credibility which is generating some heat and potential pressure. The DA is an elected official who does not want to be embarrassed or lose re-election. Now you call the accuser in for a come to Jesus meeting. Any waffling you dismiss the charges and call a press conference and say we have gotten new information we did not have when we filed the charges and the interests of Justice dictate we need to dismiss the charges. Don't elaborate. Short and sweet. She is back in the ballgame in the public eye and has a perfect out. If she is smart enough and more important wants it

Very unlikely we even get anything useful on Jan 18. From what I understand, everyone just shows up, they read the charges, attorney's can ask questions and such. Judge says ok see you all back here in March/April/May/etcetera.
Terrence Shannon's defense will likely try to get the primary, more serious charge dropped by the judge for lack of evidence - which i definitely think could happen

From my understanding, they will not have a real chance at doing that at this hearing.

EDIT: Also to add that a misdemeanor such as the one that is listed would also keep him out of game action. This whole thing will need to go away before he is reinstated (jmo, obviously).

My question for the attorneys here is can TSJ and his team push for a speedier trial if they feel they have all the evidence they need? I know often times the defense requests later dates to help them better defend there client, but has there ever been an instance where they'd want to speed up and possibly catch the prosecution on their heels?

Yes, they can, but it wouldn’t do him a ton of good if his goal is to get on the court this season. I’m not sure what the speedy trial timelines are in Kansas, but in Illinois it’s 160 days from the date of the written speedy trial demand. Most likely, a speedy trial demand filed on January 18 would get him a trial date in April or so.

You left out . . .
" . . . and all DA's start out as ADA's . . ." 😉
Well we need to step back on that one. Most often. Of course, sometimes you get a first time DA whose background is as a law professor with an ideological bent. No wars, no experience to the intrigue, the political pressure from the political side and the police. I can think of a worst preparatory experience for a first time DA but nothing is coming to me at the moment. Probably akin to my high school baseball preparing me to hit a vintage Chris Sale slider.

Not sure people appreciate the position this woman is in. Not saying it is the thin blue line but not all that far off either. They have brought disciplinary charges against a sitting DA and requesting a one year suspension. Trust me, this is not the sporting life. You can be assured they had their ducks in a row before ever taking this step. Far better lined up than this DA had her facts when she initiated her criminal charges in this instance.

You can bet your bar buddies the coldest beer she is going down. Only the extent of the discipline is going to be the issue. So now what. Sit on your heels for a year and go back to normal? Not hardly, the disciplinary panel makes a recommendation to the state supreme court who is final arbiter. Want to get reinstated, you have to apply but you also show you have mended your ways and you are a reformed soldier.
Go back to being a law professor, well I can teach these impressionable law students how to be the highest legal person in a county and get suspended from the practice for a year. Maybe at Harvard or some other liberal bastion of higher learning but KU. Maybe or maybe not.

She has a great deal at stake here before this mess happened, which I am confident will turn out to be a mess of her own making. Already under the precipice and you file high profile charges on a marginal case. This whole thing never made sense. She needs to worry about damage control.

I don't want to become the Pedos who cared more about their team/sport/ego than anything else. Let's let the judicial system work this out and be thankful that our coaches, AD, and University respect that process and don't obstruct it. None of us were there, so we don't know what happened. TSJ has good legal representation and, who knows, maybe a counter claim gest filed and things get settled. But let's be better than the Pedos. God bless the heroes on the court....

This is … NOT the same situation as Penn State. Come on…

I'd be surprised to see Shannon back with the illini. Can't lose sight of the fact no matter how nebulous this board thinks the charges are, the fact is that they remain pending and come with serious consequences. Shannon is in a fight for his liberty at this point until those charges disappear or resolve in a favorable fashion, which I'd assume the case will drag on through the season. He could probably push for a quicker trial per his right to a speedy trial, but id want to make sure my defense is thoroughly prepared as as opposed to rushing to a trial to potentially get back in an Illini uniform. That'd be my primary focus if I were him. He's facing serious charges with potentially serious prison time and other life altering consequences. Not just his bball career. Just my take and I hope I'm wrong and the charges are dropped asap and he is found clear of any wrongdoing.

Totally different situation. Not even in the same ballpark.

Why you chose Penn State as a comparison is completely bonkers and nonsensical. The charges against TSJ are serious, and I believe, virtually everybody on this board along with the school and TSJ are taking them seriously. The Illini have a great system in place, and are handling this appropriately. Nothing comparable to Penn State scandal which happened on campus with minors and was covered up for many years by the athletic department.

It's not ever about that. It's about this matter dragging out, TSJ missing the rest of the season and NBA draft. This could completely devastate his NBA dreams and everything he ever worked for.

I agree with this statement. I won't bore you with the details, but years ago I went to court (non-traffic) with the intention of pleading not-guilty. I had asked for a trial by jury and my attorney had video, witness statements, etc. There was no talk of a plea at all until the day of court. I showed up, said I still wanted a trial, and the states attorney asked me to come in with my attorney. He informed me that the accuser (an employer) no longer wanted to pursue charges after reviewing recent evidence.

Edit: Then my case was thrown out and not on my record at all.

I totally agree, and I couldn't disagree more.

We're not Pedos, nor scUM, nor any other fanbase that is willing to ignore concrete evidence, attack the accuser, threaten dissenters, lie and deny, etc. We just aren't.

In this situation, well, it reeked from the get go. Nothing made sense. And as information has come out, the smell has gotten worse. I trust JW. I trust the insiders. I trust TSJ. Not because I want to win, but because they have proven to be trustworthy. Everything we have done has been exemplary. And I trust that will continue to be the case. So when we are given access to information that strongly suggests TSJ will return, do you really think it means there's even the slightest chance he's guilty and we're willing to ignore it for a few wins? Are you new?

Speaking for myself, as a fan, of course I want the accusation and the charge to be a complete hoax, but not just to save the season. In fact, if TSJ is innocent, I would rather lose in the first round with him than win a natty without him. Because if he's innocent and we prevent him from playing based on a fraudulent charge, then that is an unforgivable failure

Drives you crazy? dang lol

My dad has the same "nickname" with a different first initial (shrug).
Don't get technical. "TJ" is his nickname. It's what Josh called him. His father is Terrance, and he is Terrance Junior. Which is shortened to TJ.

If you want to get technical, you have to go around telling everyone--including Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr.--called "Junior" that they can't do that. Of course, Autry Walker and the Allstars no one would know.
