Well, he is that. I dunno if I get it totally. But he is that. Lol

Aside from the miraculous recruiting for a long time, I think a big part of his success has been his ability to adapt and tweak things to fit his personnel. But I think there’s a lot better pure coaches out there…again JMO

GOOFY HYPOTHETICAL: It’s a summer basketball camp. The last day of camp there is a tourney. Coaches get to pick their teams after seeing them play in a pick-up game for 3-5 minutes.

But the kicker is, YOUR LIFE depends on who wins the tournament. Your choices of coaches are as follows:

Brad Stevens, Brad Underwood, Lon Kruger, Thad Matta, Bo Ryan, Tom Izzo,
John Chaney, Jim Calhoun, Mike Krzyzewski, Micah Shrewsberry, John Beilein, Bob Huggins, Rick Majerus Morgan Wooten, Bob Hurley Sr., Vance Wahlberg Gary Williams, Roy Williams AND John Calipari.

Calipari would PROBABLY be the last one I picked. I think Cal is adaptable but not all that innovative really. All coaches are plagiarists. But, I think his stuff is more than most. I’m not calling him a hack. But he’s definitely not an innovator. And, I think he needs talent to be successful, more than most of the guys on the list.

(Yes, it is a goofy hypothetical with silly parameters…with coaches living AND those now coaching at the NCAA Tournament in the sky.) *
I pick the coach that likes me the most (or hates me the least) and wants me to live.

FWIW, Pearl wants the Texas job….not gonna get it. He will want the UK job and won’t get that one either.
Just too much baggage? It feels like he’s got the pedigree for UK to pursue. If I’m considering about half a dozen of the top coaches untouchable/unwilling to take the UK job, Pearl feels like he’s squarely in that next group of coaches.

I hate Pearl, but I bet he would absolutely kill it at Kentucky.

Oh man Pearl and UK is a match made in hell.

I’d despise it, but also it consolidates a lot of my hatred.

Seriously? Isn’t this only his 2nd season as head coach? He’s an Indiana born and raised guy. Team captain for Bobby Knight led teams in the 70s. Had a solid NBA playing and coaching career. I can’t imagine they cut bait with Woodson any time soon….

They wouldn't be firing him of course ... But sort of like a "stepping away" ... After this year, that IU team is not going to be very talented ... They are gonna lose Trayce, Race, Xavier, Bates, Jalen, Reneau, and Kopp ... Either a rebuilding year or they are gonna have to kill the portal which Woodson does not like to do ...

Woodson was never the long-term solution ... The thought at the time was Woodson takes it for 3-4 years and then hand it over to Fife ... Obviously, that didn't work out ...

I would be mightily surprised if Jerry Jones and the Walton family let Arkansas lose Musselman to Texas. That's old school SWC blood feudin' down there.

He's a distant third to those other two for sure ... Oats is probably the one they want the most and probably more realistic than Sean ...

Sean doesn't forget what happened and how everyone treated him ... He is loved at Xavier ... Xavier pays A LOT more than people think ... They are custom building a house right outside the city that Sean's wife is super excited about ... He's got his son on staff ... Not very appealing to leave a place like Xavier for him after 1 year when he's got unfinished business ...

Xavier and Lexington are only about an hour a part. He wouldn't have to move. Just needs to work in one of those helicopter deals, maybe a jet pack.

Based on what I have heard so far, anyone but Sean Miller, Musselman, or Oats would shock me ...
I just can't imagine a program like UK wanting Miller. He proved he can recruit like a monster but struggled to win big at Arizona. Does UK think he will somehow fare better in the more competitive SEC with UK expectations?

One game, quick evaluation and turnaround? Rick Majerus, all day. If that guy could have or wanted to recruit he could have been am All-time, All-time great. Already one of the best. For me, easy choice.
