I have to say I’m kind of impressed that I’ve only seen one “commit” reopening his recruitment. Hope that holds true.

Probably goes more towards the fact that Lovie wasn't the reason they were coming here and a new coach likely allows them to have a chance/fit to be more used than some of the older players who might leave because they drank more of the Lovie koolaid.

Could be, though I’m not really expecting more current players to leave based on the firing than would have left because of normal attrition and the Covid rules for transfers. No way to know that but just a feeling I have.

It also may go to the fact that, for most of the class, UI was their best offer (regardless of who is on the staff)

Still to early
...As someone else said best offer
...Add that there probably isn’t a huge hurry right now since signing day is upon us & any bigger program is still playing.
... hold your Illinois offer until you have a chance to see what else is out there & if the coach that recruited you is still around

Only one decommit so far post Lovie firing (2 decommits prior to Lovie firing) and most of the commits have already signed...think it's safe to say the commits we were getting were in spite of the coaching staff, not because of it. No real surprise, but it is confirmation of what we all suspected.

I don't think it's that so much. I think number one is that most of these kids don't have great other options at the moment. And you have to imagine number two is that the conversation was had with them that the University will be supportive of them if it doesn't work out, or even if a better opportunity rolls along before February.

With the way the transfer portal and redshirt rules work today, that becomes kind of a win-win for everybody. Our new coach gets bodies, the outgoing staff were decent evaluators, there's every chance a number of these kids will stick and that's an asset rather than trying to frantically refill those spots from scratch in a pandemic where a bunch of HS seasons didn't happen. And the kids get to guarantee themselves a spot at a P5 school, make a go of it, and if it doesn't work out, chances are they can probably transfer without penalty wherever they want and reenter as a freshman still, no-harm, no-foul.

Thats kind of what I was wondering. Typically kids are released from their letters if they want in the event of a coaching change. You certainly would think if they don’t like the new coach they can get out, while at the same time assuring themselves of a spot by signing.

True, but does that apply equally to a situation where you sign after a coach has been let go? It's probably moot because I think a school can always choose to let you out and I'm sure as Gritty said, the school has probably already told them they would be supportive.

Does anyone know who contacted the kids to explain the situation - their lead recruiter? Whitman? Some random person at DIA?

Collier signs. Our first commit of the class and pretty surprising he stuck considering all the rumors of decommitting multiple times throughout his recruitment
