Neither is probably the best bet.

Well, that's almost always the case

I'll third this. Others feel like he's IL's to lose. I just don't see it.

People are confident because all of the major recruiting sites have been very positive about him. Doesn't mean anything yet but definitely is better than lukewarm news

Anyone know why THT doesn't want to play with Ayo?
THT left the Mac Irvin Fire weeks ago and joined team Rose I think. Word on the street is that THT wants to be the man at whatever school he goes to. He doesn't want to be option B or play second fiddle. Not one peep from THT concerning this but that is what is out there.

Not doubting you on this info, but seems contradictory to getting MSU involved. Hard to believe Izzo will promise him being "the man."

Ahhh, recruiting ;)

I feel we miss on Ayo, mainly because that's what I'm use to. Hopefully I'm wrong and Playing the Mac Irvin game leads to this top PG. That is why chin is here regardless what everyone says. He is here to get us in the picture for top Chicago guys.

I have watched them play 3 games now as well and would love to know who you think played better, other then 15? ? ? Number 5 has moments when he looks pretty good but I think its more because he is stronger and just bulls his way to the basket. but other then that he can not run or jump he doesn't rebound. I will stick to my guns on this one and if 15 was better wouldn't he be starting ??? I do agree he really needs to get stronger though and I do not see him playing the 5 for at the very least 2 years

Sisko (#12), Durnik (#5), Martincik (#11), and Macura (#15) have been Slovenia's best players and have had a much better tournament so far. Durnik (#5) is even leading the team in rebounding, averaging more than Vesel actually, so not sure how you can say that "he doesn't rebound" based on watching the 3 games played by Slovenia so far.

Seems likely that THT will be off the board before Ayo blows us off. Neither is probably the best bet.

Clete I didn't know you were still here. Those meltcon posts back in the day were hilarious!

good thinking, THT. head to MSU, i'm sure there won't be any other solid players there and you can be the man from day one.:thumb:

Conditt looks like he improved over the last 3-4 months. Like the skills and tools, add some more muscle and looks like a good player for BU system.

Or Cletis Hubbard and James Griffin from Fort Worth Dunbar. Oh, wait...that isn't quite the same scenario... :)

Efrem Winters and Reggie Woodward. To get a McDonalds All American, Henson also took Woodward and never looked back.

So guys... I want Ayo to come as much as anyone... But if he decides to go elsewhere when are we going to land some big time Chicago talent?

Whitman hires a proven winner coach, position-less uptempo basketball that you would think have recruits interested. AND we hire a former Cal assistant and oh ya we have a former Mac Irvin coach.

With all of those things going for us, we still may strike out on Ayo. If so I get it, BU will have to win before he lands the big time Chicago kids if we can't get keep the positive recruiting mojo going after landing reining Mr. Basketball..

Im only 28, how long did it take Self to land Dee/ Deron and co? Did he have a couple winning seasons before the recruits bought in? Just trying to figure out how he did it so successfully.

Hopefully you are going to give underwood at least a full season before you write him off being able to recruit Chicago and beyond

Agree, Jimmie Collins did it for Lou for years. Guarantee you BU saw that from Western Illinois. ;):thumb:

And actually Tony Yates was Jimmy Collins before Jimmy. Brought in a boatload of talent for Lou.

Neither Dee or Deron were Public League players. He got CPL player Luther Head but he had been recruited by Kruger/Rob Judson so Self had a head start with Head. Self got Aaron Spears from the CPL, too. Never did much at Illinois.

Also, Self inherited a super roster from Kruger. Kruger had won a BT title with Henson's players (Hester, Turner, Gee, Heldman, etc.). Then Self won two BT titles with Kruger's players (Brian Cook, Frank Williams, Sergio, Cory Bradford, Marcus Griffin, etc. Three Mac AA's in that group brought in by Kruger).

So Illinois was in great shape when Self took over making it easier for him to recruit. Even then, Self missed on a boatload of top players in his three years. Not dissing Self. Great coach. But the CPL was no picnic for him, either.

No one better than combes at providing perspective.:thumb:

Eh I'm not sold. Even though he's pretty coordinated, he's still kind of clunky in his movement. I also would like to see him play against someone who's over 6'3". Seems like a huge project. I really like Castleton

I think most 6'10 160lbers coming out of HS are "projects". I liked GCs general coordination and he showed some passion and intensity. You cant coach 6'10 and you can't coach a passion for the game.

Wasn't M. Finke only listed at 6'7" when he was being recruited and had a late growth spurt? Is Tim still growing?
