If the DIA panel reinstates him to play, everyone be ready for us to be the villain in national and regional media. Every miscue, loss, away game, will be terrible for this team.

Even if he is fully exonerated, it will be used as a way to pick at and grind this team down. Winning will only be because Illinois allows rapists to play on their team and if we lose it will be because TJ and the team are cracking under the pressure.

The Dan Bernstein's of the world will love it. If TJ is found guilty, the backlash will be unending.
Seems like Dan Bernstein occupies a lot of space in people's heads.

C'mon folks. TSJ isn't playing unless the charges get dropped, and that won't happen anytime soon.
The university is not going to reinstate a player that is actively facing a rape-charge, even if they are 100% sure he is innocent.

The optics are not worth it. The headline would be: "Illinois wins 2024 national championship* (with a rapist)"

I hope he is innocent and has a real chance at the NBA, but his time at Illinois is absolutely over.

Let's pretend the following:

1. TSJ is kicked off the team and potentially expelled.
2. He is then exonerated.

If this happens could he sue the school for the potential loss of substantial income?

Having trouble finding the twitter video (or pic) that many have referenced in the previous Terrence Shannon thread showing him in the bar.

Is there a link someone could share?

Or a screen shot?

I would love to see it for myself.

Okay, I just watched this with my wife. She’s a nurse and I’m in consulting, so we have no legal expertise. With that said, I actually kind of wanted to post my/our immediate or “raw” reactions BEFORE I overthought this … besides, a lawyer type will be more than happy to correct me if I’m wrong, right?

1. As others have said … Whitman is a treasure. He impresses yet again. Regardless of how this all turns out, I’m confident he’ll do what’s best for Illini Athletics.

2. Like others, I kind of got the vibe that if you could read Whitman’s mind there, it’d paint a rosier picture than we have on the surface. Totally guessing, but it came across to me like, “We are very smart and cautious here at the DIA, and I’m not dumb enough to say anything too specific during an investigation … but if it isn’t obvious by my recap of the actions we’ve taken thus far, we are FAR from convinced by this story, and we aren’t going to hang TJ out to dry based on what we consider a shaky allegation.”

3. On that note, I almost wonder if a possible “win” for the DIA and Terrence is if the panel continues his suspension IF they also believe this will soon get watered down? For example, if more facts come out that discredit the allegation or the charges are decreased (can this happen?), they can reinstate him at that time while not looking like they rushed this.

4. All in all, I certainly feel better. This still well my end in a tragic manner, but my gut says TJ is innocent and deserves for the DIA to have his back if/when it becomes “safe” to do so. I also think we’ve been trained as a society lately to never trust your intuition (instead ALWAYS preferring some allegedly “objective” measure even when that’s not available), and I think that’s wrong … I believe your intuition can be spot on just as often as it’s misguided, and it shouldn’t be ignored.

Josh’s repeated comments about the process being so long and Illini athletes often “not having that kind of time” certainly seems intentional to bring up.
Disclaimer: I have no idea what actually happened in Lawrence, and I trust that the "process" will reach a satisfactory resolution for all parties concerned.

With that being said, I have the exact same interpretation/read of Josh Whitman's comments from the presser. Nicely summarized, Fighter!

The only question that he kind of dodged, maybe I misheard his answer, did what TSJ told them when they verbally met about the complaint line up with the version in the filing?

Basically was TSJ fully honest?
I think people are putting too much on this question at this time. While it has been mentioned that Josh speaking on it could pull him into this case, there's also a possibility that TSJ wasn't aware of the allegation let alone the severity of the allegation when he had that conversation with Josh. So if Josh were to say ask him to recount his weekend at Kansas and a possible incident at a bar, and TSJ was unaware of the issue, then what he'd say wouldn't line up with any filing. You can't corroborate something you don't know unless you've already been informed of it or are guilty. And from what it sounded like, it seemed that Josh and TSJ had this conversation before he was interviewed by the police. So Josh answering this question could accidently cause an issue where it doesn't exist just because people could interpret it as TSJ hiding information instead of being unaware of the allegation. You can tell Josh is a decent lawyer, as that's a question that appears innocuous to the average person but is misleading and should not be answered.

Sounds like their was never an official police report, just verbal conversation....maybe I misinterpreted what was said, but that's what I heard.
This would be a huge problem for the prosecution. The closer testimony is gathered and documented to the actual event, the more credibility it has. days and weeks later people's memories are known to be hazier.

It's going to be horrible either way. Every fan section is going to be chanting "KU" or something similar at them all season, regardless of what happens. You might as well do it with your All-American candidate as not at that point.

Absolutely makes sense. Thanks. I wondered if TSJ may have shared that something happened with a girl in a bar but it was consensual.

I don't think I've seen anything that SHOWED him in the bar. There were pictures of him at the football game, and then the Twitter screen shot of a convo that alluded to the bar story. At least one version of the story.

I have read the entire message board after the initial suspension and up to this post, read what has been said. I believe it sad at how there is a "belief" that the legal system is corrupt or a victim coming forward is immediately doubted. I keep reading how great of a human TSJ is (which is reasonable). Meanwhile people Google a DA and immediately start hammering home how off kilter she is. I can appreciate the loyalty to Illini sports but I think people need to take a step back and really think this through. After watching/listening to JW speak I believe one of one of two things, either TSJ withheld details and they took him for his word OR details were divulged and JW&CO decided that money and success were more important than setting a standard meanwhile hoping this would blow over.

TSJ shouldn't be allowed to play again for the U of I unless he is completely acquitted of all of charges. Plain and simple. As a man, father, and brother there is ZERO tolerance for this. From a misdemeanor to a felony. . . .zero tolerance.
So he should be punished and suspended for the time it would take for an innocent determination to be decided, no matter what? "As a man, father, and brother there is ZERO tolerance for this" you say. For being punished even if innocent? What happened to innocent until "proven" guilty? What if Terrance Shannon was your son or brother? Take a breath.....

I hope like hell TSJ gets reinstated and everyone can just go ahead ahead and pile it on. I and a lot of others on here I presume have pretty thick skin. Not to diminish the seriousness of the allegations but at least we are not talking about a murder like Alabama.

Which is why this will absolutely not happen. He is suspended indefinitely. They’re not going to upgrade that to expelled/kicked off team unless he were found/pled guilty.

I think the panel should defer a final determination and keep the suspension as information is being released.

If bar story is true, sounds like poor judgment and risky behavior by both individuals. But neither should be defined by this nor should it go to trial. TSJ sounds like he will defend himself and not settle, but possibly best to settle to move on.

The ability of the Illini fan to take maximum damage for minimum crime on full display.

If you were around in 1990 you’d probably be taking Bruce Pearl at his word.

Agreed, and this is one of the more intelligent posts on this tragedy.

Attacking the assistant district attorney reveals that some are simply more concerned with their team's performance than they are with justice. If it were any other person accused of rape, their reaction would be the opposite.
