Do judges reach out to their peers or anyone else to get feedback on a decision like this?
I think we can narrow it down to one of the insidersWhich one of you is bothering Coleman?
I've seen hours, not to get anyone's hopes up. state circuit court that is.It is extremely common for federal judges to read the written submissions, hear oral argument, and then “take those under advisement” before issuing a written opinion days or weeks later (I would expect days in this situation given the urgency).
I am sure that all of the IAALs on here would be FAR more interested in hearing about any questions that the judge posed to the lawyers, or any comments she made, during the oral argument — those often provide some insight on the way a judge is thinking about the issue.
"him not playing is absolutely not affecting his draft status"...what?Some people keep saying that his inability to play won't have much bearing on his draft status. Most mock drafts in early December had TSJ slated as a mid to late first round pick. As of today, he is either not listed in the first two rounds or listed as a 'possible second round pick' but yeah him not playing is absolutely not affecting his draft status. I think Yardbarker is the only one I could find that had him listed in the first round at 24.
I'll take the over on the 95%95+% of the content of these threads has been entirely speculative.
Only a small handful of posters aren't talking 100% out of their asses.
His stock was hurt because of serious concerns about his back issues. TSJ’s stock was at all time high prior to the arrest and it’s doubtful he could improve his stock if this hadn’t happened. The charge itself is what’s hurting his draft potential, not the suspension.so you agree that not playing could be damaging?
I don’t know what to tell you if you don’t think TSJ continuing to have the season he’s already had through March would significantly improve his draft stock. I guess we just disagree.Well, 4 of the top 5 picks in last year's draft didn't play college at all...
IS that why he was on all the mock draft boards then and not existant on them now?His stock was hurt because of serious concerns about his back issues. TSJ’s stock was at all time high prior to the arrest and it’s doubtful he could improve his stock if this hadn’t happened. The charge itself is what’s hurting his draft potential, not the suspension.
You literally have no way to prove this, and there is no proof of the opposite either. The not playing didn't hurt his draft position though--it was the injury risk.
Under advisement is the norm on something like this. The judge wants to review and study. You also do not want to embarass either side with an immediate ruling in open court. Don't read anything into this. It was a certainty. Whatever way it goes expect a well reasoned written opinion. This is a tro. It will not be longI wouldn't take "she's considering it!" or "we're screwed" from today's process. Plenty of folks mentioned earlier there was a high likelihood that no decision was going to happen today. I'd say stick to your priors, but some of you are too far on the edge for comfort.
To say missing most of his last year of eligibility doesn't cause irreparable harm is absurd on its face. But it would harm his pro career. The better he does in college the earlier he may get drafted and obviously the higher you go the better contract you can get. Just as a baseline. So while in the end he may have a successful career, it has the potential to harm his first NBA contract
His defense should have anything concrete that the da has. She can't withhold evidence. I'm sure there's a process but she has limited time to withhold it.Wanted to give as little time as possible to prepare arguments against it? (this is also why I feel the DA still has some evidence/discovery tucked away in her back pocket)
However, what happens to his draft stock if he continues to play and he tears his ACL or gets some kind of significant injury? You cant prove if his playing or not would help or hurt his draft stock without him playing those games. It's impossible to prove.I don’t know what to tell you if you don’t think TSJ continuing to have the season he’s already had through March would significantly improve his draft stock. I guess we just disagree.
I was saying that he is dropping in the mocks but 'yeah him not playing isn't affecting his draft status'. like sarcasm"him not playing is absolutely not affecting his draft status"...what?
No, as much as I want to believe, no judge at any level I've ever encountered would take multiple complex constitutional issues and rule from the bench. It simply doesn't happen. There was a 99.9999% chance there would be a delay, no matter what inclination the judge has after hearing arguments. IAAL.they would be way less than that. if it was that large she would have made a ruiling
