Some people keep saying that his inability to play won't have much bearing on his draft status. Most mock drafts in early December had TSJ slated as a mid to late first round pick. As of today, he is either not listed in the first two rounds or listed as a 'possible second round pick' but yeah him not playing is absolutely not affecting his draft status. I think Yardbarker is the only one I could find that had him listed in the first round at 24.

Do judges reach out to their peers or anyone else to get feedback on a decision like this?

It is extremely common for federal judges to read the written submissions, hear oral argument, and then “take those under advisement” before issuing a written opinion days or weeks later (I would expect days in this situation given the urgency).

I am sure that all of the IAALs on here would be FAR more interested in hearing about any questions that the judge posed to the lawyers, or any comments she made, during the oral argument — those often provide some insight on the way a judge is thinking about the issue.
I've seen hours, not to get anyone's hopes up. state circuit court that is.

"him not playing is absolutely not affecting his draft status"...what?

Rreluctantly we have much agreement because you are right. This thing always did depend on Douglas County and in almost all cases you can rely on a thorough and professional investigation and a DA that operates on the principles of finding the truth and justice not an ideologue who may be more concerned about adhering to her platform that helped get her elected, ego and letting pride stand in her way when nothing else may. What do you say to the executed individual who meets his maker due to some prosecutorial issues. That are the breaks??? There is an awful lot at stake here and I hope the tro court is looking at it in that light

so you agree that not playing could be damaging?
His stock was hurt because of serious concerns about his back issues. TSJ’s stock was at all time high prior to the arrest and it’s doubtful he could improve his stock if this hadn’t happened. The charge itself is what’s hurting his draft potential, not the suspension.

IS that why he was on all the mock draft boards then and not existant on them now?

If TJ plays and leads us to the Final Four or beyond, his draft status will improve significantly.

Damages are the strongest part of his TRO complaint. It is finding a legal theory that makes the DIA more responsible for TJ'd problems than the DA that is akin to seeking the needle in a proverbial haystack.

I wouldn't take "she's considering it!" or "we're screwed" from today's process. Plenty of folks mentioned earlier there was a high likelihood that no decision was going to happen today. I'd say stick to your priors, but some of you are too far on the edge for comfort.
Under advisement is the norm on something like this. The judge wants to review and study. You also do not want to embarass either side with an immediate ruling in open court. Don't read anything into this. It was a certainty. Whatever way it goes expect a well reasoned written opinion. This is a tro. It will not be long

Crossing my fingers and hoping the Judge decides to let TSJ play.

It is not like he is a flight risk.

The trial will probably not happen till 2025 if ever. TSJ best chance is the DA gets fired and the charges get dropped

To me this means that the judge wants to be careful and make sure her ruling has all the support she needs given all the eyes that are going to be on it. Trying to decide if this indicates to me she is trying to lay out her reasoning for granting the TRO or denying it. Maybe it is a positive sign. I wouldn't get my hopes though.

But it would harm his pro career. The better he does in college the earlier he may get drafted and obviously the higher you go the better contract you can get. Just as a baseline. So while in the end he may have a successful career, it has the potential to harm his first NBA contract
To say missing most of his last year of eligibility doesn't cause irreparable harm is absurd on its face.

Didn't a court just recently find that the NCAA transfer rule requiring second time transfers to sit out a season caused irreparable harm?

I thought I read somewhere that the University of Illinois sided with the plaintiffs against the NCAA.

Wanted to give as little time as possible to prepare arguments against it? (this is also why I feel the DA still has some evidence/discovery tucked away in her back pocket)
His defense should have anything concrete that the da has. She can't withhold evidence. I'm sure there's a process but she has limited time to withhold it.

Per Illini Inquirer (J Wagner): "U.S. District Judge Colleen Lawless said she will make a decision "in an expedient manner" and will provide a written order after she looks over more case law. “I’m not in a position to issue a ruling from the bench,” Lawless said."

Any lawyers out there want to share wht case law she might be considering?

I don’t know what to tell you if you don’t think TSJ continuing to have the season he’s already had through March would significantly improve his draft stock. I guess we just disagree.
However, what happens to his draft stock if he continues to play and he tears his ACL or gets some kind of significant injury? You cant prove if his playing or not would help or hurt his draft stock without him playing those games. It's impossible to prove.

they would be way less than that. if it was that large she would have made a ruiling
No, as much as I want to believe, no judge at any level I've ever encountered would take multiple complex constitutional issues and rule from the bench. It simply doesn't happen. There was a 99.9999% chance there would be a delay, no matter what inclination the judge has after hearing arguments. IAAL.
